As I consider the purchase of the pa800 the price keeps going up because of the add ons.
I am bauking at present because I cannot preview the MP3 add on before I buy.

Has anyone any vocals recorded so that I can hear how they sound.

If you wish any contributions will be for my ears only and no comments will be made.

Nice stuff Donny...

How was this done? Is it style play, SMF or audio tracks..?

If the trumpet isn't real, it's one of the best I've heard

It was all recorded live one shot on the Pa800 using I think the SWING Ballad 2 or Orchestra Ballad style into the Mp3 card at the highest rate.....I just threw in some Vocals, Harmony, Piano & Strings on top..

I agree the Korg really has some excellent sounds like the Jazz Trumpet 1 .......

Great Closing number!

I am indebted to you Donny.

You always perform well but this the best example of your vocals I have heard.

I am after a natural sounding vocal recording when I sing.

By the way did you install the MP3 board yourself and have you the hard disk installed.

I intalled the MP3 player in five minutes. The back plate comes off with two screws. You pull out the connector, flip it over, and slip in. Personally, I find a hard disk quite unnecessary, with USB slots front and rear. I have a 2GB TD in front for style based songs and SMF, and a 6GB in rear for MP3 files. Like Donny, my unit works flawlessly.

That trumpet part, it IS the Korg's Intro part isn't it?

Or did you play that live...?

The phrasing on it is superb.

Hi Ken,
another thing to bear in mind is to try out the styles & make sure they suit your style of music.
There aren't the number of user styles floating around for Korgs as there are for the Yamaha's.
Your dealer offered you an incredible price, but it's only a bargain if the keyboard suits your needs.

Given the choice I'd go for the Korg any day, but what suits me may not neccesarily be the best choice for someone else.

Diki that is the stock #1 Intro for that style....I played Piano & Strings over the top of my Vocals & Harmony on the demo......
But You could easily duplicate it using Intro #2 which allows you to play it yourself.

There are definity some great sounds inside the Korg units for sure.

Maybe you could Donny, but that trumpet part is pretty heavily edited from just stock playing, and I think I would be hard pressed to just PLAY that line as cleanly and consistently as the Intro. The little turns and valve 'blips', all without making the volume jump are a bear to get right in realtime, and notice how it NEVER has any overlap between notes (trumpet can ONLY play one note at a time!). That takes some pretty hairy technique to get just right and still get a legato line...

I'm not saying you CAN'T, just it's a LOT more difficult than it sounds if you want that degree of realism. As I've been saying on the T2 thread, it's not just the sampled note that makes a great sound, it's how well the transitions BETWEEN notes work that really make an imitative part fool even a horn player!

Well I have brought the pa800 home to give it a really good try and must say I am very impressed with the sounds and some of the styles.

The OS was updated in the store but we are not really sure if the res v150 really loaded, the board sounds fine though.

Does everything load when you start loading the Os.

We loaded the OS but the res did not seem to want to load.

The PSR3000 is now up for sale.

Hi Ken,
one way of checkingmay be to press the Sound select button, choose guitars, & see if you have the new Real Guitars , they're on page 20. Just scroll thru the tabs, they go from 1-4, 5-8 etc.

best wishes

Rikki it appears that the update has not loaded.
I can bring up the update on USBF but when selected the buttons OPEN,CLOSE and SELECT remain shaded and try as I may I cannot get the select button to work.

Has anyone any ideas.

Hi Ken,
the update is in 2 parts.
When switching your PA800 on, whilst loading does it show 1.51 as the operating system , if so, then the operating system has been loaded ok, all you then need to do is load the 1.50 Resources File.

Hopefully you have the 1.50 resources file on your USB stick, if not down load it from the Korg site.
http://www.korgpa.com/pa_root/en/products/pa800_soft.html?en

You'll notice the 2 files.
1.51 which is the latest operating system & may have already been loaded into your keyboard

1.50 Musical resources. This File contains styles sounds etc.

Copy the 1.50 Musical resources to your usb stick. Plug it in the front.

My Manual is 1.0 Page 234 Media Edit Mode
Utility.

What we're doing is Full Restore Resources.

Press Multi Media Button.
Choose "Utility"
select "Full Restore Resources"
Choose USB_F
Find the 1.50 file
Press Restore Command.

It takes quite a while.
Don't touch the keyboard till it finishes.

Only do this if operating 1.51 has already been loaded.

If not we'll cover this tomorrow.

best wishes

Good morning Rikki.

Just a couple of questions before I go ahead.

Do you have to load the 1.50 Musical resources file differently to the Operating system update files?

Does the Musical resources update contain the original files as well as the update thus being a "full restore".

Hope these questions make sense.

Hi Ken,
they're done differently,
Resources is via multimedia as above ,

1.51 directions are in a pdf file in the download from the korg site they in the folder along with the file..
It's the one where you hold the Intro1 button whilst switching on the PA800, something along those lines. You may well not have to do this one if 1.51 operating system is showing up in that bar line whilst your PA800 is powering up.

I don't know whether the 1.50 (it's only a few mb's) is the full resources file for the korg, but you still load it as the full restore.

You should have actually received a DVD rom with the original operating system resources file . One of those files is actually over 120mb's. Just keep it safe should you ever need to load from scratch.

What you're doing is only upgrading.

Mine came with vers. 1.01 operating & resources files (I think).

best wishes

I have struck another problem.
I want to play a song in the Songbook and I follow the instructions in the manual.
Press Songplay and when I open the window from the screen nothing shows although I have checked to see that there are items in the song book.

Any ideas.

Ken, the songbook is not a "song play" item. It simply sets up the "style play" for you to play the song yourself.
After you select the song from the songbook....you have to trigger the chords and play the song as if it were any other arranger style.
The title is a bit confusing ... they are not really songs, but "set ups" for songs that you can play yourself !

Ken...first off do you have the USB inserted or hardrive with the mp3 songs or smf on it?
secondly if so.....on the main display screen click either of the two SEQ windows #1 or #2 this will open and you then can view what songs are on your storage devices, then open>select which song you desire to use.
Exit and go back to the main display>make sure you push the "SONG" button that is next to the style button> the push play on either of the two SEQUENCERS to play each song> SEQ #2 will be ready to play either next OR simultaneously.....then you can use the Vol slider to make segways or adjustments easily.
