Jim, I'm not using the SD-5 out yet, but Fran will be enlightened to know that I have opened the case on this one.
My main focus is the C-1 Nord and Electro with my grandson playing drums. 2nd is a trio with me playing guitar and piano with my son playing upright and my grandson on drums. Over in the "Bar" I mentioned that I have decided to make playing arrangers out a low priority right now. Nothing wrong with them, but I'm happiest making other musicians sound good and I revel in that wonderful loose communication on the bandstand where you play off each other, complete with time and key changes, medleys, trading fours, etc.
The SD-5 is GREAT, just not what I'm doing at the moment. Of course, for some jobs, it's the only way to go, and I'll use it when appropriate. I just don't like doing singles.
Luckily, there is enough work to be flexible...a single on nylon string with all instrumentals, a quiet grand piano job...everything up to working with the Philharmonic and a group of 13.
I like variety and, after over 50 years, still LOVE this business!
