Let me begin by stating that I am a complete MIDI novice. I am looking for the easiest & least expensive way to save the information on my Roland Boss DR-5 Dr. Rhythm Machine onto my Macintosh Performa 6400 computer. Please specify 1) What cables are needed as well as 2) what software I will need in order to transfer the info on my DR-5 to the MAC for archiving that will also allow me to transfer from the MAC to the DR-5.

Will I be able to send just the patterns and songs I want to save on the MAC or will I have to dump the shole damn thing and vica versa.

I also have a Roland VG8 COSM guitar system. I would like to upload and download patches off of the internet. Please tell me what 1) cables I will need and what software I will need in order to do this with my MAC.

OR is there a stand alone device onto which I can log all of this information?

I look forward to your advice and thank you in advance for your assistance.

Wolf, there is a Mac program named DR5Tool that uploads/downloads midi files and I think you can download/upload your DR5 info also. You can email the author Chris Dewhurst [chris@capilano.com]

I am currently using a Windows based program that does what you want. If you have any questions about the DR5, I encourage you to join the DR5 support group at...

Good Luck,
