i have Tyros 1 and am thinking of set of powered speakers for it .

Some have talked about Logitech Z 2200 in this forum as a set used for Nursing Homes etc .

In your opinion is Logitech Z 2200 or Z 5500 better than the speakers Yamaha is selling for Tyros .

Also, I was going to buy a Logitech Z series to try it out but it says I need a PC card

Could some one tell me how do you all connect your keyboard to a Logitech Z 2200

The Logitech speakers are much more powerful than the Tyros speaker system. You can get a set of Z-2300 $150.00 you can't beat it. I have 3 sets of Logitechs. To hook them to the Tyros I use an adptor "1/8 sterio to "1/4 sterio & plug it into the headphone jack on the Tyros, works great. You can also use a spliter, plug into main outs on the back of the Tyros. The Logitech comes with a "1/8 sterio plug so you have to use an adptor which ever way you go. I hope this helps.

The Z-2200 system no longer exists and was replaced by the Z-2300 system. However, for another $100 you can purchase the Z-5500 system, which is an incredible 5.1 surround sound system that will accommodate audiences to 125 people with no problems.

It's easy to hook up to your keyboard and there are several posts pertaining to this, which can be found by doing a search. If you have problems I'll be more than happy to guide you through the process.

Although I haven't tested this on the Tyros's, in GENERAL, the line-outs of most audio equipment is a hair cleaner and quieter than the headphone outs, as it doesn't have to pass through an additional amplifier (to get it up to phones power levels), and built-in headphone amps generally don't stack up to dedicated pre-amps.. Fewer gain stages usually equates to quieter, cleaner sound.

I just sold my Z5500 system because I wasn't happy with the lack of Midrange & overpowering booming bass.. I am now looking for & auditioning some decent quality powered speakers.

Diki's right. Generally, coming out of a pre-amped source, like an earphone jack, into an amplifier is inferior to coming out of a line out. I ALWAYS get devices with a line out,if available, if there is a chance I'll use it/them with a PA.

I bought a Z 2300 and tested on my Tyros and the sound was just not good . It was like sound was coming from a well with little clarity. This may be due to Tyros useing Mega voices . I use headset Sennheiser HD 280 PRO and the sound is just fantastic and the instruments sound like the real thing playing it live

Something must be wrong. I have used my Z2100s with my Tyros 1, Sd-1 and now G70. The sound is always crisp and clear. Granted there is a little lacking in the mid-range but some keyboard EQ can compensate for most of that.

Sounds like a phase problem...

Double check that ALL the speakers are connected EXACTLY how they tell you to.
