This is my exact point... Shipping just ONE keyboard in a box entails FAR higher risk than several at a time. Add to that that, unless the keyboard is destined for a studio or home use ONLY, you are going to get a case for it anyway...
Why not get it now, and ship it in it?
Why risk this happening again, if you don't HAVE to? JMO...
In terms of "risk" its a rare event.
My wife gigs with a 50lb Roland RD700 and has never had a case for it. She can barely move it as it is. I won't buy a case only to have it sit in an attic in the rare event of damage caused by shippers.
I don't use cases either in my gigs. I loosely strap the keyboards to a small hand truck.
I built a light two piece removeable carpet covered 3/4" ply wood "tunnel" for the keyboard to slide under in the car so I can load things on top of it.
The bottom line is keyboards are shipped every day all across the world and this is an extremely rare event which although could have been prevented by the purchase of a case which will not be used enough to warrant the cost. However I don't buy Extended Warranties either....LOL I live dangerously I guess. Keeps the blood flowing. But I don't whine and ask for special favor when things go wrong either.
