When I record my songs (with vocals) on the mp3 in the PA800 can I take it to the computer via pen drive and mix? What program would anyone suggest?

Thanks in advance.

Will post as soon as this is done!

Or...if you don't need all the bells and whistles of a $349 program, take a look at WavePad. The free version does quite a bit.

Things sure happen regarding what to do with audiofiles.

GJ

Btw.

Audacity software ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ ) are free and many use it.

I purchased Acoustica MixCraft4 a couple weeks ago ($69)..I can't recommend it enough..Zuki, it can help you with your MP3's with compression, limiters and any other mastering tools (many are provided), It also can change pitch and/or tempo without effecting each other..easily..

It also serves as a VST wrapper for all the great VST instruments and effects..

It comes with a very decent GM wavetable ( I actually use/like some of the sounds as lead sounds..It also is down-loadable with several great VST's...

Check it out... www.acoustica.com

I was under the impression that the Korg's only recorded to a stereo file... Hence, if I understand the initial poster, you CAN'T 'mix' the file on a computer. It is already mixed!

You can master it (and it WILL need it!), but you can't actually MIX it there... (change levels, EQ, compression reverb, etc. on individual sounds or voices)

Nothing short of the software arrangers will do a multitrack recording on an arranger, AFAIK, which is what you would need to MIX afterwards on a computer.

"mix" is not the right term, i assumed zuki meant "adjust" or "polish".

another great program that i use with my main daw, which is REAPER at the moment, is Acon-Digital Acoustica
http://www.acondigital.com/us_AcousticaPE_Screenshots.html

not very expensive, but has great editing options and vst support.

First of all we need to know what Zuki really wants to do i.e. Mix or Polish. As Diki said if you wanted to Mix the song then you would need to use the Pa800 'sequencer' to record the song, then Mix it within the Pa800 sequencer after recording it OR save the song file as an SMF and do the Mixing on your DAW software on the computer. Sonar LE is a good one for that. After you Mix it (whichever way you choose to Mix it i.e. computer or pa800) then record the finished Midi into a .wav or .mp3. You can then use a Multi-track recording software to add the vocals to the song. For example PowerTracks PRO Audio from PG Music is relatively inexpensive and works as advertised.

If you want to "polish" an already created and existing .mp3 then disregard the last. There are many software programs to 'polish' your .mp3 or .wav. I use Sound Forge 7.0 but it's rather expensive. A free one as already mentioned is Audacity. Sonar LE is another one and is less expensive than Sound Forge. Plus the other ones mentioned within this thread.

Best,
Mike

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Mike, you hit the nail. I just want to take my mp3 (I already balance the instruments through the keyboard) and make sure each song is in volume balance with each other for burning on a disk. The biggest thing I hear from my songs is the difference in OVERALL volume from one to the next. I wouldn't want that on a CD.

My 2nd option is to go to a local studio I have lined up and he does his work with Pro Tools. Maybe that would be a better approach...don't know. I'll try the CHEAP way first..

Zuki, you might try T-Racks as a mastering program. Inexpensive, but with all the basic tools. Yes, it's not as good as some of the REALLY high end stuff (I use a suite of UAD-1 mastering plugins and some Waves stuff for most of my plug-in mastering, it compares fairly well to the studio's Manley Massive Passive, Slam and hardware L2, IMO), but used carefully, it can do wonders.

The host software is usually not as important as which plug-ins you use, most native DAW's don't include as high quality mastering plug-ins as a dedicated package...

Then finally, if the Korg can do it, I would recommend recording as a .wav file, preferably 24 bit (but 44.1kHz is fine) if you are going to master it. You will get a FAR better result encoding to MP3 after the mastering, not before. If the Korg is limited to MP3 only, you might get a better sound with a modest soundcard in the computer and record at 24/44, or even a Zoom H2 or the like. Once you convert to MP3, you lose sound quality you can never get back. Do it last, and the mastering software is at least working on the best possible source...

Hope this helps...

Just noticed you are going to CD... OK, forget about the MP3 encoding completely. 24 bit .wav is the way to go, and master to 16 bit .wav (with dithering on) as the final process.

I do mastering work for many local artists, and some pre-release mastering for major label artists, so if you need further advice, feel free to contact me.
