Hi, my uncle just gave me a Roland JX-3P
synth circa 1985. It has banks A-D. Banks
A and B already have factory preset programs
but banks C and D are available so you can
actually edit the programs and save them in those banks. The trouble is when I try to do so all the light indicators light up but no
edited program. Unfortunately I did not get the manual with this synth. Im wondering at this point should I just sample the Roland to my Kurzweil and edit from there. If anyone has any knowledge on this old synth please let me know. Its a really cool keyboard, it would be even cooler if I could make it work correctly. Thanks in advance.

In response to your question Check this out: Look on the back panel and see if the memory protect is on. From what you descibe it means that this could be switched on.

Thanks for making me aware of that. For some
strange reason though the program still wont
save to the C or D banks. I know Im doing
something wrong. Im wondering if I can ask
Roland if they have a printed owners manual
stored somewhere in their BASEMENT. In the meantime Ill keep experimenting. If you have
any other suggestions please let me know.
Thanks again.

Chris -
I think I have the manual. E-me your address at mhjr@aol.com and I'll send you a copy.

I could be wrong but sometimes on the older ROLAND gear you have to hit the save or enter button and hit the actual patch location too . If you don't already have it , you should try to get the PG-800 programmer for it , that has all the knobbs and slidders for real time control and it makes programming easier . That synthesizer has a lot of CROSS MODULATION features for making complex sounds .

OOOPS sorry , I was thinking about the JX-8P . The PG-200 is used with the JX-3P , and never mind on the cross modulation - thats the JX-8P also . But try the button sequence anyway .

Hey there Chris. Have you figured out whats wrong with that JX3p? I just sold mine last summer (bummer) I had mine since 1986! Back then it was state of the art, I still love it and I will buy it back later. All those years and youd think I could figure out what you are talking about, but I cant seem to be able to help, The memory switch idea was a good bet though. Lets see, mine had a modification made from Roland on it to give it an extra midi channel and touch sensitivity. You should check with roland about this update, its old now but you may still be able to get it, its a must if you plan to use it with other synths in a midi set up otherwise the 3p will want to play back all channels at once....i got off topic....ok. Oh, yeah, the 3p was rolands first midi synth and its actually circa 1983 or earlier though i dont know what year it ceased production, my guess is around 86 when the JX8p came out. See ya...
