Sorry, Donny, but when Sinatra came out, or Do-wop, your grandparents were saying exactly the same thing... 'This is a gimmick, it'll never get played once you get older, it sucks compared to what WE used to listen to' blah, blah, blah...  And yet, here you are, proving them wrong. As your grandkids will prove YOU wrong. And so it goes...

Split your keyboard. Put the same accordion patch on both halves. Transpose the bottom part until it is in the same range as the upper. OK, now you can play exactly what you just did, but without your hands being on top of each other! This allows you to be a lot more inventive without your fingers getting tangled 
I've used this same split keyboard technique for many years on piano and organ patches(among others)...works like a charm...great for playing rhythm. Ian
