Just got a Sweetwater catalog after a recent purchase. They list a G-70 for $3395, I think.

Is this still a production model? Anyone else still stocking new ones?

I was informed that production had stopped. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that it is no longer in the catalog. Doubtless they have enough unsold units to supply everyone for a while

I'd shop around for a better price than that Sweetwater one, though... Or try used. They are built (and weigh! ) like tanks, so a used one should still be in decent shape. My three year old G70 (heavily gigged) is still in 100% working condition, so a home unit ought to be close to showroom...

With rumors of a possible new G-series in the pipeline (skeptical, myself, but who knows? ), I think I'd be considering used, as you will lose a LOT of that new value the minute a new model comes out...

Fran is right, Diki. I had one, which I bought new for $2500.00. I played one in a store in Louisville several times after I bought mine and decided that I prefer Ketron. The lack of easily executed breaks without a work-around did it for me.

I traded for an SD-5 and subsequently bought a Midjay and controller from Don Mason. Now, I'm exploring the use of the SD-5 and the Midjay together.

Was just curious about the status of the G-70.

You can put breaks on to a footswitch or one of the FC-7 choices for hands free, and assign it to either of the Assign SW's at the left end of the keyboard...

What more could you need?

Yep it sure is discontinued, production stopped on the G70 in late 2007. That was information direct from Roland itself, via someone who represents them.

What is in stores is simply accumulated stock, or whats left of it.

And amongst other things heard, word is that Roland MAY be going to beef up the KF series with similar arranger features that exist on the G70, making more of a home piano entertainment system, leaving the E80 and further incarnations, to continue carrying the flagship title in the "Pro" Arranger area.

Miden,

Are you sure about that? That Roland has discontinued the G-70?

By coincidence, I was talking to the keyboard dept at Roland in Calif yesterday. I originally called about the new GW8 (which cannot be edited to from patches), then the E-series, finally the G-70. I was not told that they stopped production on it (but then all the manufacturers don't tell you anything until about three years after what they should have told you three years before!).

I told them I was having difficulty locating one in the stores. Answer was: because of the economy, no one is buying high-end arrangers so the dealer doesn't want to get stuck with it. Right!....but they're willing to carry 3K Yammies and Korgs!

But he told me to look for a G-70 with Version 3. That Version 3 sounded entirely different from the original...so I assumed that they were still making it.

I'm probably going to end up buying a moderately priced arranger and keep replacing them every so often. Too hard to keep up with the politics of merchandising!

Hi Lucky,
Yep pretty sure.. all the G70's available now are existing inventory. The manufacturing stopped some time ago I was told.

Still a deal, if you ask me..!

Want just one keyboard, that can handle it all, from studio, to live band to duos and solos....? There are better specialists, I will admit... But if you want something that makes few apologies at ANY of those tasks, it's still hard to beat, IMO.

It also has the kind of giggable build quality no non-Roland 'board can match.

Since it has been a while now since the "deal made in heaven" has gone down, I can say that I decided to trade Zuki for two reasons. The first was because he wanted to trade for a PA-800, which I had. Secondly, I really never could warm up to the appearance of the blue Korg, eventhough I like the important features . The Roland always has denoted quality,OS snafues not withstanding. After admiring the looks, for a while, I decided to dig into the OS. This,I am still doing, and find new features every day. What a class act.

In retrospect, however, I can see how Russ didn't have time to devote to it, with his schedule and warehouse full of equipment. Zuki is a focused performer without the time(or maybe inclination) to doggedly explore the G70, much less carry it multiple times a day.

You see, we are all musicians plying our trade in different ways. Unlike most situations, we are all winners.

RE: Support Request #32511
Product: G-70
Subject: G70 production
Question: Can you please advise if the G70 is still being manufactured? I am aware it can still be bought, but I wanted to know if you are actually making it anymore?

Thanks
Dennis

Dennis,

The G-70 is a current product. It has not been discontinued.

I hope that this helps answer your request. If you need more assistance in this matter, please either re-submit your support request or contact our Product Support Department at the appropriate number:
********************************************

So there you have it from Roland US.. Makes me doubt now all the other information given to me as well!!

But anyway Fran, just wanted to set the record straight.

Cheers,

Dennis

I would have been easy to say "yes it is still being manufactured"
But.....they didn't say that they said "The G-70 is a current product. It has not been discontinued." I read that to mean they still support it.

But they admitted there is not a big market so you can bet they aren't producing them to sit in a warehouse.

Whether they are still current or still being made is two different questions.
IMHO

There was an announcement on the Roland Germany forum reported at Roland-arranger.com -
http://www.roland-arranger.com/smf/index.php?topic=819.msg4844#msg4844

that seemed to officially announce the cessation of production of the G70. Roland Germany sure seem to be on the ball, being able to STILL manage to get OS updates out of Roland Arranger R&D to fix obscure bugs, and have generally been less opaque when it comes to communicating with the customers over there...

So, take it as you wish, but this SEEMS like the end... at least of production. That's not to say they can't restart it if demand suddenly increases, but that seems unlikely without a new OS to kick start it again...

In the meantime, count on most of the Roland dealers telling you exactly what they feel like, facts or no... You can hardly expect them to tell you something is no longer in production if they are trying to sell you something! Especially without a replacement for it, yet...

Thing is Diki, there is no point for the guy I deal with to make this up, there are no G70's (new) at the Roland warehouse, only those already in stores' inventory. (and none at the store I deal with!!) So that being the case, it made what they were saying all the more plausible..

I have to note Mikes post where he pointed out that Roalnd didnt actually say they were still being MADE, just that its stilll the CURRENT model!! If its still the current model , it maybe does not bode well for a replacement any time soon.

Everything is the 'current model' until the day it's replacement comes out

There is no way to infer anything that Roland are, or are not, going to do, from what they are currently doing. What will be, will be, and what won't, won't... (pretty profound, huh?! )

In the meantime, for all the T2 players getting ready to jump ship, for all the Korg and Ketron users thinking of changing ships, I can only say... I still haven't heard anything out there with the balls, the construction, and the sounds to better my G70 at what I use it for...

Over three years and counting, and nothing in the slightest of any temptation whatsoever. Not bad, Roland, not bad!
