In about 1 week (9/13), Korg will be announcing the features and release dates for the new OS 2.0 for the Korg Pa2xpro.

If tradition holds true, they will release new sounds and styles along with major enhancements to the core OS. It should be quite interesting and fun to see what they cook up!

I don't usually look forward to September since it's signals summer's end. But...............with that new OS I've been counting the weeks. Hopefully, the actual release date won't be too distant.

I say well done Korg.
At least KORG are supporting customers with a stated to be new OS rather than trying to sell a replacement new keyboard like some other ...no names !!!!

Hi Donny,
personally I'd call it great customer service.
Major upgrade for free.

The 1.50/1.51 ugrade ( introduced guitar mode, and added additional sounds & revamped styles) , can't wait to see what this one does.

BTW (for any newbie Korg owners)
I've been sorting thru the old PA1X styles.
(They were downloadable via Korg Forum site which is currently down.)
Approximately 200 of the styles differ between the PA1X & PA800.

I've been using XRM ( database software)for sorting out the styles.
Still has a couple of minor bugs, but Micks still working on it. http://www.dunbharra.net/korg/forum/Blah.pl?
Basically what it does is allow you to create style sets more easily.

best wishes
Rikki

Dennis,
How do you get to the download area without going to the forum?

Thanks,
Lee

Hi Dennis,
not sure if they're in this section either.
The styles were submitted by one of the members, and were accessed via a link within the message.
The guy had gone thru & deleted the duplicates. I'm just rechecking and putting them into the database.
Apparently Korg musn't have a problem with it? as you well know, they take part in the forum on occasions.

The XRM database is so handy for sorting user styles, even though it still has the odd bug.
I think I can even do a print out of what styles are in each of the files, though haven't tried that yet.

The PAL viewer software is handy too, though unfortunately to export the data , one requires Excel, which I don't have.
Still handy anyway , as I can at least see what's in mystyle & pad files.

best wishes

As to the OP, don't forget, korg are only releasing the DETAILS on the 13th, not the op sys itself, that may yet be weeks away!! So perhaps we shouldn't get too excited yet.

Hi Rikki
If you just wish to read excel files, you can download a free reader from Microsoft.
If its exporting files you require, then download Open Office (It’s free) which will read excel files allowing you to export.
Hope this helps

Hi Bill,
thank you.
I think the software actually requires Excel resident in the pc.
I'll give Open Office a try though just in case.
I don't understand a lot of PC technical speak. haahaa

I've actually got microsoft works, which does read excel files, but the PAL software still won't export files for me.

Mick is hoping to program the software to export to Text files, so eventually I should be ok.
Thank you anyway.

best wishes

Hi Rikki and all,

Because PAL uses functions built into Excel to perform the exports you need Excel installed on your PC for the exports to work.

As you have correctly stated, Rikki, I am working on the next update which will include exports to also Text files and HTML files. I hope to have it released within the next 2 weeks

Regards

Mick

Rikki, I'd pull that email off of here, or a spybot might grab it and spam the hell out of you.

Just update your Profile page, and your current email should be visible to just us members there....

Some info on the new OS 2.0 from Pakefield...

Hi all,
Not great news on the Korg front. All the U.K.team are here, John Pacey, Simon Hampshire, Rod Pooley etc. Christ they make some stunning sounds on the keyboards. They are all keeping tight lipped about the o/s upgrade. Apparently it is to do with the launch in Germany. This will be on Friday. The o/s will not be available Friday, as it is not ready yet, all you will get is details about what features it will have. What I have found out is that there will be new sounds, and the ability to load midi-files and see them converted into a score with chord symbols on the screen.
It seems like the Korg U.K. lads are worried about letting any information out before Germany launch the o/s. All around the camp there are leaflets announcing the new Korg version 2.0 software for PA2x/PA800. When you ask the Korg representatives about it, they do not want to talk.
Pretty shoddy if you ask me.
As for the Yamaha Tyros3, I went to the U.K. launch today. It was a really polished professional show. The effects section ( DSP) is completely new therefore it changes all the sounds on the keyboard. ( Even the same sounds as on the T2 ). The organ sounds are all new, the keyboard has slider style drawbars. The piano is the same sampled piano they use on their CLP range of digital pianos. The Super Articulation 2 voices are truly stunning, not just in the sound, but in the way they respond to your playing. ( More of this tomorrow ). The new sounds are even used in the styles. I have to say, a very nice piece of kit. But sadly at £3400 including speakers ( MS02 ). Well out of my price range. Once most of the die-hards have bought theirs, I think they will struggle to sell many without big discounting. At least the Korg upgrade is going to be free.
All for now
