That's very cool Mike. Simple acoustic tricks like that reminds me of a recording session I did back in the 80s. We were working with a drum track that had been done on a very early digital drum machine and the snare lacked a realistic sound. We routed the snare drum track to an external speaker that we put face down on an actual snare drum so it was vibrating the snare against the skin. We then recorded that using a mic under the snare drum and then mixed it with the drum machine snare track. It turned a lack luster digital snare track into a very realistic one.
