All the current games consoles are good and each has its own strengths. It is not a matter of better or worse just more what your requirements are.

1) Nintendo Wii
Strengths - Cheap. Unique controller that is well supported by games that are exclusive to the Wii. Free online service.

Weaknesses - Has less graphic capability and CPU horsepower than its competitors. No DVD playback

2) Xbox 360
Strengths - The core system has now got pretty cheap. Good graphic and CPU power. Xbox Live is an excellent online service.

Weaknesses - Earlier models seemed to have a high rate of hardware failure. Subscription must be purchased for online connection through Xbox Live.

3) Sony PS3
Strengths - Blue Ray disk player. Good graphic and CPU power for games that have been optimized for PS3 hardware. Free online service for online gameplay. Has motion sensor controllers but not as accurate for control as the Wii controller which is optical rather than motion sensitive.

Weaknesses - Sony At Home online community isn't as mature as Xbox Live but it is getting better. It is the most expensive console available.

That sums it up quite well. We were going to get the Wii, but been holding off on Blue Ray. One day I was browsing to see if they still build the MDR 7506 headphones (had my old ones for 20 years) stumbled on the Playstation and was amazed at the features other then gaming. I had an old iRiver H-100 attached to our home system for MP3 Playback and the PS eliminating that as I put all those on the PS3 as well as some vids and and pics,

A stand alone Blue Ray Player is still around $300 so for $100 more we got a pretty good Media station which plays media from WinAmp remote and a pretty good gaming machine. (Although Madden is the only game I care about). The browsers is a nice to have but I have a notebook on the end table.

Nigel has summed it up pretty well there. For me the Wii is the best option. I'm really into the games that deal with WWII like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. Playing these games on the PS3 and Xbox is ok, but the Wii takes it to a whole n'other level with their user interface. There are numerous 3rd party accessories you can buy for the Wii that add another level of realism.

For the war games you can buy the Wii Zapper and other devices (which I have several of).., and they essentially turn the Wii remotes into a virtual weapon and as the player you feel more into the game. I've got the Zapper and another attachment that makes the Wii remote like a Colt 1911.., and MAN does that do wonders for a realistic experience. It's like an arcade shot em up game on crack! However, with the Wii you have full movement control and much more.

Another VERY cool way the Wii's allow you to really experience realistic play is a game called Blazing Angels (one that I also have)... It's a WWII fighter pilot game.., but this game turns the Wii (nunchuck-smaller palm controller) into the planes control stick! You literally FLY THE PLANES using the nunchuck.., VERY COOL AND REALSITIC!

I also enjoy the golf games, and even have games to play pool, fish, and hunt. My daughter has tons of games on the Wii and so does my wife. My wife has the Wii Fit, but NEVER uses it I learned real fast to not bring that issue up with her....

**Another very cool game to mention for the Wii "live experience" is the Tiger Woods Golf... Sweet Mary....!!! You literally swing the controller like a golf club You even putt on the green by holding the controller like a putter. Plus with the TW Golf games the controllers even read your swing speed and how far back you draw on your swing! How crazy is that

Wow.

Didn't think there was hardly ANY gamers on this forum - so good to see!

I realise I'm amongst the youngest members of this forum, but I've been playing Video Games since I was very small, and I don't think there has been a major system (arcade or home) that I haven't either owned, tried, or played publicly (games in Video arcades) - this also includes Various PC "Generations" of games.

I'm really impressed with what Nintendo has done with the Wii (and also the Nintendo DS) and I think they've been particularly creative and innovative with their approach to the industry. I was going to post my take on all the consoles but Nigel has summed it up perfectly accurately (I expect nothing less from an industry professional).

Unfortunately I don't own (but have gamed on) a Wii so I can't join in on the fun. I am involved with the Xbox 360 online gaming community and find it a fantastic hobby.

Also, quite frankly, I've been waiting for the rest of the non-gaming world to catch on to the fact that video games are just another Hobby, and can be often far more interactive and stimulating than some other more passive and mainstream Hobbies.
