Got to give the nod to Yamaha on this one.. T3 if you can afford it, S900 if not.

Mind you, I don't know if pitch can be assigned to a pedal on an S900... anyone?

Yamaha's Mega Voice technology, in the style parts themselves, makes the rhythm electric guitars sound SO good. It's the #1 thing from Yamaha's (even more than the SA voices) that I most envy...

Yep it sure can...assignable for up or down and range is assignable as well.

I use a Yamaha FC7 Volume pedal as it has an adjustable pedal angle.

Is there a particular reason you left out the Tyros 2, please?

I think Diki was recommending the most recent Yamaha arrangers.

I actually like the T2 more than the T3...the latter has better organ sounds and a few SA extra guitars, but otherwise the former is another excellent choice...and you can use a pedal for pitch bending.

Gotta' agree with DNJ and others above--if you've got the chops, Yamaha's guitars cannot be beat.

I have to give the nod to the Yammie guitars, as well. I'll usually go to the (T2's) 'Jazz Guitar' for both comping and soloing, and it's not even a SA voice. The 'acoustic' (which IS SA) is also pretty nice. Very authentic if you can master the technique and guitar voicing. Like Ian, I also like a couple of the organ voices (for soft B3/leslie pads for background tracks ie. 'soul' ballads). I don't use them anymore since I got the C1, but they could actually fool a lot of people if not too far forward in the mix. JMO.

I would also agree with the others in that Yamaha has some really good guitar patches. The only negative thing I'll say is the pitch/mod wheels on the PSR's have never really been too great in "quality". If you can use a pedal I'd strongly suggest it.

Personally I've thought Yamaha has done a great job on their guitars over the years and with mega and SA guitars it takes them to another level... However, I've always felt the cheaper construction of the wheels got in the way.

The only problem I have with pedal acctivated bending is that you have to choose between bending UP or DOWN... you can't do both. I know guitars can only finger bend up, but forstly, whammy bars can bend down, and then a LOT of guitarists bend up FIRST, then hit the note and bend back down - a technique few keyboard players use...

That's true Diki..., also many of us who do play guitar give little use to the modulation wheel as well..., as we get much more realistic effects using the pitchbend wheel or joystick. That's why I say the Yamaha's PSR line may have issues as the wheels aren't that great in quality. The Tyros is s different story though as it has much better wheels.

The quality of the PSR wheels has never been an issue...I use them more than the average user, and I've never had a problem or a failure.

They don't feel as robust as those on the Tyros, but they still work smoothly, accurately and reliably.

If the PSR wheels didn't work well, I would have bought a Tyros2 or T3....but they do the job just fine.

I've always been a wheel man ever since my Mini-Moog...I dislike the bender on my Jupiter 8, and joysticks give me no joy.

Using the pedal to bend is an acquired skill, and takes a lot of practice, but it can be very useful in many situations.

It's nice to have the option.

Ian

Actually, I do like the SA guitars on my T2...but I think now with the time I've spent...I like the guitars on the PA better, especialy the new DNC guitars (and I have tweeked them some myself) and I prefer the joysicks solid, quick action to the wheels. And I have used a Yamaha FC7 to control the pitch as well. (prefer the joystick now)

boogieman1066, Try them yourself...only you can decide.

IMHO,
Lee

Thanks to everybody for their help here (my first post). I should have explained that I like to play blues, jazz and rock using a Roland FP4 and playing left hand bass and right hand piano.
I want to add another keyboard on top that will give me great guitar sounds, then I can use a pedal to pitchbend.
Being disabled, I am unable to carry equipment and rely on others, so the less weight the better. Also, I had a PSR S900 but couldn't see the screen so sold it on. Looks like a Tyros could do it for me then?
Any future comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
