Kudos to Kingfrog, he said something like "We play Garth Brooks when we need to clear out a bit." Meaning, the music store.

Haha, I don't care for him much either... but he IS like the top selling country music artist of ALL time. Which kind of makes me sick.

Oh well, I hear he is a super nice guy and takes care of songwriters and bandmates like you wouldn't believe. So, here's to Garth.

What does your venue play when you need to 'clear out a bit?'

"Show me The Way To Go Home" Max Hargraves version is something I use as a walking out song.....leaves people in a good sing to teh car mood & the lyrics encapsulate the evening also.

We've played this at a Wedding upon request - the actual recording was insisted upon by the way - the reason?

They (The Bride & Groom) had rehearsed a complete dance to it!

Can't recall an occasion where anybody WANTED to clear the place out...

I find it hard to believe that, in the Carolina's, Garth Brooks would cause a stampede for the door, especially in a music store that caters to arranger users and eschews the loopstation crowd I would have thought some 50 Cent or Lil' Wayne might have achieved that more effectively

At the supper club where I work most of the time, we NEVER rush anybody to finish, and routinely stay late until everyone has plenty of time to eat, drink and be Mary (or merry).
However, when there are waiters, bartenders, busboys, dishwashers, valets, cashier, and security, not to mention the BOSS waiting around for one table of people who have finished eating, are not drinking and have lingered well past closing time, it's a losing proposition for the club.
I don't play music to run them off, I just tell the goodnight and turn OFF the music.

I did not specify WHO we are clearing out....You get a group hanging around "jamming" on the XKs and Baby Gs singing and it's hard to demo a $3000 Taylor or a C1 to real buyers. Country Music does the trick everytime.

I don't know about ALL DAY, but I would hang around for a while ...
The day after Halloween this past year, our local 'light rock' station, which my wife listened to all the time, went "Holiday Music" 24/7 until about the week AFTER Christmas - we like Christmas music, but for 2 full months 24/7 ???... that was a little too much - so my wife started to listen to country western and got HOOKED ... I like quite a bit of it myself - actually grew up listening to a good bit of it - and have a number of CW tunes in the gig repertoire ...

Don't play anything if you want me to leave. Just put on some house-CD and I'm out of there

Im not pounding country music...I'm USING it as a tool. Coutry Music is rare around here. Only one bar is known for it and a local rock band changes their name to play there, lol.. BEACH music is the song here.

I have a problem on several regular gigs with turnover. With seatings at 5, 7 and 9, I sometimes have to break to allow the room to clear. The floor manager and I have a signal. It's not so much that people are staying around for me, I think it's just that the change gives people a reason to move on.
