Hi... Has anyone got a Ketron SD5..... and if so is it a good choice for a gigging musician doing Country/Ballads/Rock/50s+60s music etc.
More secifically has anyone in the north west UK got one I could possibly listen to.
I have got the chance to buy one at a good price(I think) what in your opinions is the going rate for new or nearly new.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have the SD5, the country styles on the SD5 i like them better then on the PA series but
thats all a matter of taste.
Technically i can help you but as for sounds and styles suggestions its all taste, i never
say anything about things like that.

The SD5 is ideal for Country and old R 'n Roll.
I've been playing with Hank's for the past few days, awaiting my Audya. You'll find all the styles you need easily, and the traditional sounds are truly great.
I'll be happy to help if you need any.
If you want to hear some recordings on the SD5, let me know.

Got one in a box I don't use. It's a great board, but I'm pissed off at some of the individuals involved in distribution and what I think are unacceptable sales activities.

Great board, though....for someone else!

(Ademdum: Just noticed that you're from the U.K. My issue is with the US operation and probably doesn't apply where you are.)

The SD5 is great board, great live sound and with the hard drive you also get the styles from the MS Series. Also you can find online the X1 styles. With the new guitars and drums in the SD5 the older styles sound very good. Good luck, I miss mine very much!!

Sounds very promising.....
I actually had an Audya for about a week last month and although I was impressed by the styles it was so unreliable (locking up/bugs/styles missing etc) I returned it....
So its the SD5 HD or the Tyros 3.

Thanks for your comments.

Think the Audya will be a great keyboard, but I would wait a little just to work out the bugs. I'm not sure when you tried out the Audya, the update was released or not and I'm not sure if it would have solved the problem you saw with it. As far as the T3 or the SD5 it personal taste. There both great boards but are two different animals. The guitars on the T3 are one of the best I've heard in any keyboard to date. but the SD5 is more of a raw live band sound. As I said before the sound engine on the SD5 is different than the SD1/XD9/X1 since they have new sounds and drums. The guitars on SD5 are not the Yammie guitars but they sound good also.

Good luck

Also just as a thought, you may want to try a combo:

S900 w/ SD3
Tyros 2 w/Midjay

These two combos above will cost about more or less the price of a T3

Tyros 3/sd3 or midjay

none of this is acceptable when your on stage or at home playing .....they really need to work our ALL bugs before any releases...why should the owner have to go through any aggravation on an unproven unit. thank you for your honest reply.

The jury is still out on the SD5, this is my first Ketron keyboard, I had the Midjay and liked it a lot but the OS on the SD5 is very different and not as easy to me as the Roland because of terminology. The overall sound is different on the SD5 and there are a few bugs. If I can locate an overall keyboard EQ I believe this would help. The G70 was able to automatically find the harmony part on a midi file and insert it in the right place; I can’t get the SD5 to do it, there are some other non-important things I need to figure out. But I’m lucky I live close to Don Mason and as you know he is very knowledgeable about this and other keyboards and has offered his help.
