I have just purchased a JV1010 and trying to incorporate it into my existing midi setup. However, I have some problem in running the Sound Diver software along with Cubase VST. My current setup are as follows:

Yamaha SY85 ( as master keyboard )
Roland MC303
Akai S2000
Roland JV1010 ( connected to PC via serial port )
PC running Cubase VST (with external 1/1 midi interface)

I have connected everything up as the following table
Midi In = MI, Midi Out = MO, Midi Thru = MT

SY85
MI: from PC¡¦s MO, MO: to PC¡¦s MI, MT: to S2000¡¦s MI
S2000
MI: from SY85¡¦s MT, MT: to JV1010¡¦s MI
JV1010
MI: from S2000¡¦s MT, MT: to MC303¡¦s MI
MC303
MI: from JV1010¡¦s MT

The problem is that when I switch the back of JV1010 to PC and activate Sound Diver (SD), SD is able to request all internal memories from the JV and everything is OK. However if I play a note from my SY85 into Cubase, the whole Cubase just jammed. On the other hand, if I switch the back of JV1010 to Midi, SD is not able to request any internal memories from JV ( with the message ¡§ SysEx communication error, JV1010 not responding ¡§ ). But the time the Cubase works fine.

Is that something wrong with my system? What shall I do? Pls advice.

Regards,

Hi!

I think many people are having difficulties running SDiver in paralell with their sequencer of choice. If you go to http://www.egroups.com/group/sounddiver-users
and do a search on, for instance, Sounddiver, Hubi's, etc., you should come up with fairly detailed advice re what you are trying to achieve. I have myself posted questions there regarding this very issue, and I got an answer from E-magic themselves (Michael Haydn). Unless the drivers of your soundcard are multiclient you will need to install the dreaded Hubi's Loopback Devices and "do stuff" to your system files. However, I never tried to implement the necessary changes to my system in order to enable paralell use of SDiver and sequencer - I just don't like messing around with sysedit and stuff like that.

I wish you all the best - and please let me know how you fare,

Magnus

Hi,

Yes, your MIDI driver must be multi-client capable in order for Sounddiver to work with a sequencer package. That should be about it though. Either get an interface with such a driver or use Hubi's loopback driver (I don't know that it is really dreaded though).

Sounddiver (SD) works great with Logic Audio since both sport a feature called Autolink. What Autolink allows you to do is transmit all of your patch names into a sequencer program. Logic is the only sequencer I know of currently that supports it although I believe that Autolink is open for 3rd parties to develop Autolink support. It is a great system. You can use SD to get a list of patches from your synths (or write the user memory with new ones from a library) and automatically update the patch lists in the sequencer.

It is pretty cool once you get it working.

I would recommand to use a midipatchbay in your setup.!
Since I use one (E-Magic amt8) my pc-midi setup is as rocksolid as hardware.
And ofcourse sounddiver works excellent with the amt8, also with third party sequencers!
(I use cakewalk and works flawlessly.)

Fred:
I'm also struggling with MIDI patching, but am a little intimidated by the cost of the eMagic EMT8. Are there any other patch solutions which might be cheaper? The only thing I've found is a 1-in/2-out router from MidiSolutions which is pretty cheap, but obviously a little limited.
