I imagine the lack of EQ on style/SMF parts doesn't matter like it did on the E-60...oh well, some people love having another set of sounds and styles to play with.

Nothing wrong with that, in my opinion.

He HAD a backup if the E50 is good enough. I would have thought another S900 was a real backup...

If I bought a T3 to backup my G70, that would be twice the work to get it ready to gig. Get another G70, all I have to do is sync the data...

Still looking for one, BTW...

What's on the laptop? And have you got a backup to the laptop?

I was toying with getting an E60 as a backup, but I need too many hands free features. That FC-7 is a bitch to live without once you get used to it.. My UPG's and styles would have been fairly compatible, but simply playing would involve me taking my hands off the keyboard too much..

It's a backup spare voice I have trouble finding!

I really didn't know how much I missed my E60.....but this E50 really sounds "LIVE" compared to the S900's compressed sound which is good also but different.
Guess what SZ'ers?.... I have a new backup & it's the S900 ....more to come

I was in the same situation--had both the E50 and S900. I much prefer the "live" sound also.
I'm still anticipating an Audya though.
Can't see giving up the E50, at least for a backup, for a long time.

Yikes!

So no EQ on each Part isn't quite the showstopper you were telling us, eh?

I guess it's a shame that even when you HAVE got per part EQ, you can't get it to make an S900 as 'live' as the Roland's...

But it's good to have the old Donny back... We missed ya, bro...

Yeah...it's strange the lack of part EQ isn't an issue any more...it sure was a very big issue few months ago.

What has changed?

Nuttin'.

I think we're just witnessing another "Donnycycle", a phenomenon that mystifies many, and amuses many more ...but he's obviously happy, and that's got to count for something at least.

The age old "live" vs. "compressed/polished"....no winners, just different strokes.

Old stuff, it is.

Donny's rule: If you don't like (or, more likely, get tired of) what's coming out of your speakers....make a change....get tired of that...make another, but be sure go back to the previous/similar choice...rinse and repeat, ad nauseum.

I love this place.

Fellas.......of course there are issues with ALL Arranger KB's.....I'm fortunate enough to be able to make mostly any arranger sound decent & override all the issues and drawbacks that each one has.
Experience thru the years & a few tricks of the trade & you can gig with most units for sure...I'm glad I have two very different sounding units in the E50/S900 makes it interesting to A/B them both & of course have a backup just in case which in turn would save an emergency purchase in a tight gig schedule scenario by having a unit in the closet. At this time I'm content with what is out there and what I have weeded out so far on the market. I am also looking forward to what is on the horizon in the arranger keyboard world in the future. The word "BEST" doesn't exist anymore in the context of Arranger keyboards....just a certain comfort zone that we all have to endure & enjoy as each of us has different needs as you are very aware of. Instead what everyone should be worrying about is making your playing better & better every day because without your talent no Kb will make a difference when you play it.....enjoy what you play!

Carry On

Can you fall in love with two arrangers at once second time around on both
both sound great..both do it differently..
both have their strengths.. both have their flaws for MY needs..both are definitly workable on stage..I will only use one at a time..& right now I'm glad I have them both.

Now that I have both here to A/B .....the E50 definitely has a more resistant key-feel then the S900.

Air piano is a more resistant keyboard feel than those PSR's

Played a Steinway D at a concert tonight (opened for All American Rejects - ask your kids who they are! )... now THAT'S a great feeling action...

Maybe for a piano player but not at all for me...I dislike piano keys & hard action of anykind.....because I am NOT a piano player but an Arranger Kb artist..

Nothing like a Steinway D a very unique instrument. In the 70s when I worked for the local Steinway dealer we had one primarily used for rentals when guest artists were in town. Got to play that during most of my lunch breaks what treat that was to play. And to think it retailed for $12,000. At today's prices maybe you could buy the lid and strings for that amount. I just did a quick e-bay search price range is from $54,999 to $89,950.
