Be very jealous, guys. I just got off the phone with Sasha!

She's going to let me know when the powered 8's get in, but I was looking around the warehouse, and found a small 150 watt (75 per side) Crate amplifier I bought a year ago, which I have used to power two Peavy monitors by lining out of the pa into the Crate.

I just ordered two small 8" cabintets from our "girl" (told her to tell her husband not to worry too much about the male attention from Synthzone members).

I'll let you know, but plan to put one in each of two different dining rooms at a restaurant I work. The Peaveys are pretty flat, and these may be better. Not the same speaker as is in the powered units, but Sasha says they're pretty good, and we ALL believe what she tells us. They also don't have handles, and that may be a problem.

They should be in mid-next week.

Russ

If you are not in the market for the 802s, just ignore the posts about them. Why keep instigating trouble?
You can save SO much time ignoring the things you aren't interested in, as I ignore Mediastation, Wersi, Softsynth, Mallard Ducks, etc, posts. I also stop reading every post that turns into a shouting match.
I'm pretty sure that soon there will not be enough things that interest me to justify wading through the crap.
I like my 802s a lot so far, and I have several other very expensive pa systems.
Russ, I assure you that in my opinion they sound better than any Peaveys within $500. of them.

On the phone, she's a nice kid and sounds like she knows what she's talking about.

Don is right. If these little guys are any good, I'll let you know. If not, I'll let you know.

Either way, it's totally up to the individual.

What's there to argue about?

Nothing, in my opinion.

Russ,

You might want to consider the 10s instead. They are very portable, very powerful and clean and have a built-in handle. Also, are in stock for $40 more to your door.

I have both and the 10s are my favorite.

Hey, Jim. The cabinets I have ordered are the non-powered ones. I have several pairs of 10's
(non-powered). Can't really think of an advantage to having powered ones, except for the reduction of one piece-a separate amplifier.

I'll think about the 10's vs. the 8's and decide when Sasha calls telling me the 8's are here.

Take care,

Russ

Hi Don

Interesting statement. I believe you have or used to have some Peavey PR series speakers and also some Behringer B212's or something like that. I would be interested in your comparison between the Podium and the Peaveys and Behringers.

Thanx
Scott

Hi zuki

It seems to me you mentioned your 8" Podiums sounded better than your Mackies. How does the 10"s compare. Which Mackies did you have and what kind of price range where they?

At the risk of a public humiliation (again), I'll say the Podiums to me sound as good as the powered Mackie 450v2s (I just sold). To my ears they sound very clean and plenty powerful enough. I am not saying these are as powerful as the Mackies, just that they are much better for my all around needs:

1. Ease of handling
2. Powerful enough for medium size crowds (I'd say they could easily handle 200 - 250 people)
3. My vocals sound much better through them
4. Great built-in handles
5. Lifetime warranty
6. Inexpensive (to say the least)

Please read the large thread for more detail.

I liked the Behringers o.k. They sounded very good, but I only used them once or twice, and I had a chance to sell one to the Country Club where I occasionally work and the other to the Supper Club where I work steadily. That means any time I'm there I have a back up on the premises if needed.
Brilliant, right!!
The Peaveys I had were not powered, but the Podiums have better balance, lighter weight and cost a little less. And they sound better TO MY EARS.
The Barbettas 31Cs are another story. They are much more powerful than the 802s and have even better bass response. They have separate amps for the bass and horn, and three-band e.q. Of course they cost five times as much.
It's easy to justify having the 802s around "just in case".

Any thoughts on the 10s vs the 8s as far as low end and volume?

I got the 802s, and I love them, but my band is giving me a bit of guff about having more stage volume :P I've got a friend who will take the 8s off my hands for the same price (he was going to order them) so I was thinking to upgrade. The 10s are almost double the weight unfortunately. I may just wait on the 12s or even get a 15 or two (anyone tried the 15")? Man, the 15 is 55 pounds though, argh...
