Jerry,
I will have 45 days to eval the L1 Compact. My play for doing so is to take it to all of my gigs along with the Classic L1 and use them side by side for at least 10 gigs both with my Tyros 3 and my PSR3000. That should give me a real good opportunity to tell if it will even come close to my current L1.

I use the L1 for any size group. I have found that the clarity and sound dispersion far outweighs using my smaller speakers even when they would probably provide more than enough sound. Style just seem to come alive with the L1.

Just curious, but where does Bose sell off all the L1 systems that people use for free for 45 days, and then return? Presumably, they can't sell them as new after that degree of usage?

Who cares..with a 5 year warranty and an easy resell with relative minimal depreciation?

I know you don't care, King. It's your specialty...

But maybe there's a few who might like to get a Bose system at a discount (seeing as how the pricing structure doesn't allow for that). Heck, maybe even I might like one if I could get it less expensively...

Just a note about Bose's Pricing Policy- I found this out almost by accident the other day).

We're going to be getting the Packlite soon (a small Power amp - size of a paperback small(!) - and 2 more B1's) and I looked up my favourite local specialist Music store (Australia) and I noticed on their Website that a whole bunch of equipment was going up in price (due mainly to the Aus Dollar falling in relation to the Greenback) so I frantically called the store because I thought I had missed the boat to get a "normally" priced Bose Product(s).

So, long story short.

The guy tells me that Bose have in place a policy that keeps the prices "at parity" despite the fluctuating dollar - this apparently includes new stock - so upshot is, the price will remain the same for the forseeable future!

The guy said straight out he wished other companies had this policy.

I'm well aware that this post smacks of "I-love-Bose-even-more-now" but it really did floor me (and him, as he had to phone up Bose personally to confirm the future price) and I am just honestly, hand on my heart, reporting this just as it happened.

I don't know how Bose do business in the consumer side (I've never owned anything other than Pro-grade Bose equipment, i.e. The L1) but combined with their fan-freaking-tastic forums, I find it really REALLY hard to fault them in the professional world in regards to Product & service.

When a customer has a problem with Bose equipment, they often send out a replacement overnight, then ask you to use the boxes to return the defective pieces. I would imagine they used the returned systems in this capacity.
I REALLY wonder what percentage send them back. I bet it's small, but at the volume they sell, there are bound to be quite a few.

Everyone who wants one would like to get a Bose system at a discount...ya think? Bose has an iron clad retail policy though...(but if you know someone locally.......they may pick up the tax)

But the pricing policy is one reason the $3000 systems sell for $2400 on Ebay after a couple years.

i just found out from a friend who is a teacher. Bose has an educator discount. 10-20% depending on which item.

any school can purchase unlimited bose products per year. a teacher is allowed 1 personal purchase per year for their own use.

she told me the L1 model 1 is 1680.00 and the model 2 with tone match is 2419 with the tonematch.

hope this helps any teachers out there.

I offered my theory as to what happens to some of them.
