This is just a heads up for anyone who has been looking for a Bose L1 System.
I have pre-ordered the new Compact Bose L1 System and it will be shipped to me
the first week in May. I intend to use it on several gigs and decide if it is a good
replacement for my current L1 system. If it doesn't do the job I will return it
and keep my current L1 system.

My Bose L1 Model I system is a Classic and you can read about it and compare it to other L1 systems here http://toonz.ca/bose/wiki/index.php?title=L1%E2%84%A2_Unofficial_Users'_Guide

If you think you might be interested give me a call at 469-939-5793. I have all the parts that came with it like all the covers and cables etc. I use the system now almost daily for gigs - it works just like
it was new. Why would I sell it - one simple word - WEIGHT. As i get older I am always looking for ways to lighten my load for my gigs without giving up quality. No other reason.

Ant that's the reason I sold it. Have to admit tho, I miss it. I'm very anxious to hear how the new compact unit compares.

Hi Glenn,
I really like the Bose. The new "compact" version will have to deliver a lot before I will actually part with the Classic. But if it does I will make the change just to lighten my load.

Hope all is going well with you these days.

Don't ya just love how easy it os to sell a Bose LT system over a conventional PA...No shortage of buyers looking to save $500-600.

Conventional sales should be so fast and profitable. We are selling ours as well. I paid full boat for it a couple pole years ago and am going to sell it buy a new system at this time as a sales rep IF they have the employee purchase deal Yamaha has I will probability buy a couple......Pretty much got the XS free with what I saved on the T3.

Hammer,
I'd be interested in knowing what you're going to be playing through the L1 Compact -arranger board with vocals? Will you go through a mixer?

Jerry,
No vocals. Tyros 3 only.

Hi Eddie... I'm using a single Barbetta Sona 32 for small - medium venues and pairing it up with a EV SXa100 for anything larger. Really do miss the Bose tho. I'm sure by mid-summer I'll either have the compact or the L2.

Thanks for getting back to me Glenn.

I have also changed what I use for the smaller day gigs. I found the Bose L1 a bit cumbersome to do a party of 20-30 ppl. I now roll in a Roland KC 350. 50lbs...but I put it on wheels. Now I just Plug & Play.

Night gigs are a different story. Still love the Bose.

Hammer,
I'm anxious to see your review of how the T-3 sounds through the L1-Compact. I tried to use the L1 without the B1 and I didn't like the lack of the punchy bass sans the B1 - even in small areas.

Glenn and Eddie,
I found that the Sona 31 works well for my smaller restaurant gigs, and I still use the L1 with either 1 or 2 B1's for bigger and outdoor venues. I also carry a Sona 32-SL in the van in case I need a little more punch. Several times, I have chained the 31 and 32, setting the 31 bass at about 11:00 o'clock and set the 32 bass at about 1:00 o'clock.
Ciao,
Jerry

Jerry,
I will have 45 days to eval the L1 Compact. My play for doing so is to take it to all of my gigs along with the Classic L1 and use them side by side for at least 10 gigs both with my Tyros 3 and my PSR3000. That should give me a real good opportunity to tell if it will even come close to my current L1.

I use the L1 for any size group. I have found that the clarity and sound dispersion far outweighs using my smaller speakers even when they would probably provide more than enough sound. Style just seem to come alive with the L1.

Just curious, but where does Bose sell off all the L1 systems that people use for free for 45 days, and then return? Presumably, they can't sell them as new after that degree of usage?

Who cares..with a 5 year warranty and an easy resell with relative minimal depreciation?

I know you don't care, King. It's your specialty...

But maybe there's a few who might like to get a Bose system at a discount (seeing as how the pricing structure doesn't allow for that). Heck, maybe even I might like one if I could get it less expensively...

Just a note about Bose's Pricing Policy- I found this out almost by accident the other day).

We're going to be getting the Packlite soon (a small Power amp - size of a paperback small(!) - and 2 more B1's) and I looked up my favourite local specialist Music store (Australia) and I noticed on their Website that a whole bunch of equipment was going up in price (due mainly to the Aus Dollar falling in relation to the Greenback) so I frantically called the store because I thought I had missed the boat to get a "normally" priced Bose Product(s).

So, long story short.

The guy tells me that Bose have in place a policy that keeps the prices "at parity" despite the fluctuating dollar - this apparently includes new stock - so upshot is, the price will remain the same for the forseeable future!

The guy said straight out he wished other companies had this policy.

I'm well aware that this post smacks of "I-love-Bose-even-more-now" but it really did floor me (and him, as he had to phone up Bose personally to confirm the future price) and I am just honestly, hand on my heart, reporting this just as it happened.

I don't know how Bose do business in the consumer side (I've never owned anything other than Pro-grade Bose equipment, i.e. The L1) but combined with their fan-freaking-tastic forums, I find it really REALLY hard to fault them in the professional world in regards to Product & service.

When a customer has a problem with Bose equipment, they often send out a replacement overnight, then ask you to use the boxes to return the defective pieces. I would imagine they used the returned systems in this capacity.
I REALLY wonder what percentage send them back. I bet it's small, but at the volume they sell, there are bound to be quite a few.

Everyone who wants one would like to get a Bose system at a discount...ya think? Bose has an iron clad retail policy though...(but if you know someone locally.......they may pick up the tax)

But the pricing policy is one reason the $3000 systems sell for $2400 on Ebay after a couple years.

i just found out from a friend who is a teacher. Bose has an educator discount. 10-20% depending on which item.

any school can purchase unlimited bose products per year. a teacher is allowed 1 personal purchase per year for their own use.

she told me the L1 model 1 is 1680.00 and the model 2 with tone match is 2419 with the tonematch.

hope this helps any teachers out there.

Sorry, Don... I was kind of going for facts, rather than guesses. Like, if they had a site or number where you could get a reduced price on the returns. But yes, perhaps they DO use the returns this way...

One would have thought however that there would be very little in the way of repair returns, given how so few have made any comment about unreliability, though. I just find it difficult to believe that the number of returns after the 45 day tryout is less or equal to the number of faulty systems being repaired. But I could be wrong...

Me neither. I'm using two systems in stereo on my S900....absolutely awesome!

Great company with terrific support.

I have seen some ebay sites that have just the towers or just the base units for sale, with new guarantee and for less than new prices. Maybe that's where they go???
