Just trying to "fine tune" the equipment for the summer. I recently added an ART Studio Tube pre-amp and an MXR Phase 90.

The ART is a neat little unit with both 1/4" and XLR ins and outs. $75.00 from Sweetwater. It is killer with guitar into a transistor amp and warms up vocals nicely.

My original MXR phase 90 was stolen a while ago. I got the middle one available...not the hand wired one, but the upgrade. $99.00 from Sweetwater. I like to use it on slow rotation
for piano in really bright rooms.

Obviously sounds good for guitar, too.

Not state of the art gear, but good, useful stuff for us working folks.

State of the art is not always the way to go. And, the MXR Phase 90 is a great, versatile box even by today's standards. Enjoy.

What does the phase 90 do? Is it a phase shifter?

Yes, the Phase 90 is a phase shifter. It's the one in the orange metal case that has been produced since the 70's, I believe. There are three orange models and an Eddie Van Halen model in a differently painted case . The basic one is about $70.00. Then there's the $100.00 retro one I got and a $120.00 hand wired retro model.

Fun Stuff!

Oh, Russ... you might be interested by the studio's new toy...

We just got an absolutely cherry '61 B3 and a big honking Leslie!

At least, that's what the studio owner tells me. I have had the 'flu (not swine, no matter what the rest say!) all week and it's driving me NUTS I can't get in to play it yet!

Soon, though.

I'll post full details when I am better.

That's GREAT. Diki. You'll LOVE it! Of course, as you know, belt and tube noise is a real concern. Some Leslies are just quieter than others.

You're probably like me...never met a B-3 or Leslie I didn't like!

Enjoy

Against the wall of guitars I am often pitted against, Russ, belt and tube noise is the least of my worries!

I hate to admit it, though, but as much as we ProTools everything, and chop and dice songs until the form works, I KIND of wish he had got an XK3c 2 manual or the Nord C2 (and the Leslie!) so we could remain in MIDI until the final form... cross-fading Leslie takes never sounds good to me.

But playing the Beast will be a joy, I know...

I'm using my old MXR-Phase 90 on guitar and keys, but I imagine you know it also sounds terrific on bass guitar....it keeps the lows but adds a slight edge that works for fast funk tunes as well as slow ballad type.

My only issues with it are that it isn't a true by-pass, not a problem if you have it on all the time, and the switch is overly sensitive.

Built like a tank. Great rig.

Dike, I have both the Nord and the new Hammond
XK3C. Good stuff. I have a 145 and a 147RV, but I use the new Motion Sound 145...more powerful and more durable (no wooden case to scar up).

Gotta LOVE the Leslie!

Ian, I generally use a Flanger instead of a phase shifter on bass, but both are neat!
