Really consider getting this. Combined with an XP, you have the ultimate sound library. This module is like a collection of all of Roland's expansion boards. The drum sets are really good and the other instruments rock. The module covers world instruments too. i wonder why it's taking consumers so long to recognize the power of this unit. It is full programmable and has a great intuitive interface.

EPU-

I checked one of these out before buying the JV1080. It DOES sound good and has some nice waveforms but it is NOT fully programmable. I'd call this the ultimate general midi sound module with a couple of hundred extra high quality JV patches thrown in. Yes the effects are nice too.

However, at the time $1,995.00 Australian was a bit too much to be asking for this when a JV1080 offered so much more in terms of synthe programming and expansion for $2,495.00 retail.

I respect your opinion (we are all different) but to me, the ultimate sound module will be the new Roland XV5080 which will offer all those great JV/SC/JD sounds plus a whole lot extra and it will allow you to load up to 128MB of sample data to boot!!!!!! Pity it won't sample itself!!!! But hey, I suppose you can't have everything can you.

If anyone comes accross an SC880 for a good price, snap it up because EPU is right, it does sound good and it is underatted I suppose- but I wouldn't call it the ultimate sound module anymore!

This module IS actually fully programmable. You can control both LFOs, TVA's and set up everything just as you could on a JV. You can even set individual REVERB and CHORUS sends for each key in every drum set.

You really have to dig deep into this module to see that. You don't do so from the patch mode, rather you do that in the tone mode which is the equivalent ot the JV/XPs patch mode.
