Another classic music store bites the dust so sad...I loved Manny's they had everything stores today don't compare been shopping there since I was 14yrs old ro so..we'd take the train to NYC and buy things with the money we saved in a jar...
48th street music scene ain't the same anymore.Internet sales have ruined so many businesses.

One of the first places I went to in America when I first got here nearly thirty years ago was Manny's (and Giardinelli's). First day in the US, first day in NYC. Went there before I'd even gone up the Empire State Building and the Twin Towers (or the Carnegie Deli!)

The internet has brought many good things into our lives as musicians - social networking, promotion tools, eBay, access to all kinds of resources... There HAS been some terrible collateral damage, though, as well.

Actually, while I lived there (on 52nd St., no less - for all you Billy Joel fans ), Godley and Creme (founding fathers of 10CC) had a hit with a song of the same title, eight years before Sting's version (I had left for the South by then).

Worth a listen (I am quite a fan of theirs)...

A lot of music stores especially family owned went out of business, my favorite music store in the Tri-state area was RONDO MUSIC in Union NJ which no longer exists but I think they moved to New Hampshire and only deal with mailorder I was in there at least twice a week to check out the latest in used and new gear.

Ahhhhhhh yes I used to come home from work in NYC yrs ago on Rt 22 and stop into RONDO'S and be able to sit and play all the keyboards with out being bothered, chat with my friends who worked there also it was a Super Music store...sad to see it's gone also. Most store now don't carry much anymore and not worth the visit for the pro KB player.

Rondo's was my second home away from home now that feeling of having good friends almost like family these days is lost, you just walk into any big music store chain and if they feel that you are seriously considering buying they will help or else they move on, I can't say I blame them because it's all about the numbers from here on.

LOL, on top of that page a big red line containing following text:
"This video is not available in your country due to copyright restrictions. "

Thinking about another tread at GenArr just now ......

Weird... here in the litigious USA, there is no restriction on this. Go figure.

Try a Google search for it (there are several different videos). Possibly it is up from another source.

Mind you, when you look at the Iranian government's attempts to shut down legitimate protest over the Internet, this doesn't seem as urgent anymore!

Rondo Music is still around but now they are just an Internet store selling mainly guitars. Their Internet sales became the main income so they decided to shut the doors on the brick and mortar store in NJ.

I love all those great deli's you guys have been talking about. I hit at least one every time I come to the city. I must say if the ever close Colony Music, I'll be in mourning for a long time.

Joe, Colony Music on 49th & Broadway in Times Square is the ultimate music store......in the lobby of the Historic Brill Building with so many historical music memories, I've been there many many times.. we had a studio apartment around the corner on 48th street.

Amen Donny. I've always considered it a shrine. That, and the incredible music selection, are reasons I've always gone there.
