Well, of course you know I had to try it!I sold my model II since I don't need the power much anymore....teaching had taken up all my time, and I still love it to death!
So - I bought the compact system and it's an entirely different beast, but VERY effective in small to medium settings so far. I bought 2 to experiment with a stereo mix for larger things, but as always - the mono unit filled my Jersey shore club date with crystal clear, pristine sound that many staff members commented on and asked me what I did differently this year. This little unit will not reproduce the same SPL that the larger systems can, but it's so efficient in moderate settings that I do believe that the sound is clearer and fuller at the lower levels. The advantage will be that you needn't use the extensions for every situation - the tweeters are neatly housed in the base bin on this system - brilliant! It's 1/w the weight of the old systems, and sounds fantastic.More later .... BTW - I have a PSR3000 that's up for grabs!

Dave,
I was one of the first to get the compacts here and have posted on several forums the results I had in different venues. I have absolutely no need for my standard L1 anymore. I use two of the compacts on just about every gig and the lower sound levels produce outstanding quality.

Welcome to the Compact club.

Yup! This one's a keeper! These guys just keep getting better and better all the time ... I just bought another wave radio for my bedroom. I'm all Bosed up!

Dave,
The last time I saw you at the C-Trap, I think you were using speakers from a 1969 Ford Pick-up truck. The Compact will certainly be an improvement.
So far so good with the Compact in the small restaurants ... this Sat., I open for the City Rhythm Orch. in the Ritz-Carlton ballroom. I'm going to try to use only the Compact, and only plug into the house system if absolutly necessary.
Ciao,
Jerry

ha ha .. you must be referring to the Radio Shack $50 teeny surround sound system I had there! It was all I needed .... but didn't sound good. The Crab trap only cares about volume - now I can spoil them and show them that pitifully low volume can sound stellar!

I just got a call for Bose, wanting to know how I liked the Compacts. I put him on for a while, told him they sounded like crap.
Then I had to confess that I really liked them.
I can't see using the big system much any more except for really big jobs.

I just talked to Gary Diamond and he's had a single L1 compact outdoors for 250 people already .... that's good enough for me! And I have the second one in case I need to do 500!

Hi Uncle Dave,

I have one as well and I've used it for several jobs including 2 that were over 200 people and it performed beautifully. I am amazed by how it sounds good even in crappy rooms. Hope you enjoy yours.

Ditto!!! I picked one up last weekend and used at this afternoon's gig. Performance was everything and more that I hoped for the room played with 60 to 75 in attendance. Beside the pristine quality sound the ease of set up can't be beat.

How are the vocals thru the system. Also I have a PSR 900 and use mostly the Piano and Strings. Does the piano sound full and rich. Some systems make them sound like toys... Thanks Ron

I don't have one, but if I did... is there a way to run a powerered sub or amp along with the Compact? Not ever owning one and only hearing one model 1, I want to hedge my bets before I go and sell my Mackie stuff.

If you run them thru the Compact vocal channel, I feel they are too dry. However if you fire the vox thru a KB or mixer with effects, they're awesome.

Cass,
There's a line out to connect to other systems, but I doubt that I'll need to use it.

Looks more like an L1 with a double sub (look down at the bottom), doesn't it?

Are Bose Compact sightings going to take over from Elvis or aliens?

I've noticed Yamaha has used column type speakers in several videos.

Here is one. I saw a similar one with Vonken, however after closer observation I saw they were on a stand like this one.
