Has anyone had any experience with how well EMC does with conversions to Roland ? I have Style Works XT for Korg. I thought of upgrading to Universal, as I have several hundred custom styles in Technics format.

If you want to email a few to me I will send them back to you in G70 format. That way you can hear exactly what they will sound like and make up your mind to get the Universal edition or not.

I have the Universal XT edition with batch processing.

Hi Bernie,
KN7 aren't the easiest styles to convert.

I've had more success with some of the earlier ones like KN2,3,5 (to korg as I haven't had Roland in years)

See how you go with the styles James has kindly offered to convert for you.

This may be of interest to you also.
Don't know if you ever bothered collecting Technote Style Disks for your KN's,
but it appears Technote has recreated the styles for Roland Keyboards.
I have no idea how good they sound as they haven't done them for korg.
I was nearly tempted to buy a Roland when I first read about it a couple of years ago.
I miss some of those great old Technics styles & unfortunately a lot of my old disks got damaged over time. Years of storage, the data got corrupted.

Maybe someone who's got some can tell you whether they're worthwhile or not.

I was almost tempted to buy one of the downloads to see if Roland format converted better to korg, than the original Technics.

Hi Rikki
Thanks for the tip, the thing is, I have hundreds of great styles that are mostly better than the factory styles. It is worth it to me to upgrade to Universal EMC if it does a decent job. I just heard back from Klaus(EMC), and he says it does a great job of conversion of Composer contents, but not Panel Mems. I knew that. I can upgrade my present Korg XT to Universal for 150 Euros. Since the Korg is no good to me, it would be foolish of me not to get Universal for whatever keyboard.

James
Thank you for the offer, but I'm going to get Universal, regardless.

Hi Bernie,
fair enough. I only mentioned the Roland disks just in case some of the styles you were planning to convert were some of the Technote series of styles.

I stupidly saved a number of my kn7 styles as cst's ??, ( in sd backups) which can't be converted, so just make sure they're in the composer format.

Are you actually planning on selling your KN?

I've had the Universal versions of EMC for years. Made more sense to me than owning EMC for a particular brand of keyboard.

best wishes
Rikki

I do not plan on selling my KN7000, but it is seven years old and may last seven more, or die tomorrow. I can tweek my Technics conversions easily using the Makeup tool on my G70. With the superior dynamics, I should have a killer board.

Bernie,
Quote “I do not plan on selling my KN7000, but it is seven years old and may last seven more, or die tomorrow”. Are your talking about us or the Kn7000. (Grin)

I have found back when – that at best the recreated style at best sounds fair. A style is created for the instrument they have worked with and that is where it sound best. They the instrument sounds and how they are produced makes all the difference in the world.

Yamaha user sites offer conversions from many other keyboards, even the Kn7000, even a good amount of tweaking they do not have the same feel – but they are an acceptable close second. My knowledge comes form the days we tried to convert styles from the Yamaha, Korg and Roland for our Kn7000 keyboard. They were always bitter sweet.

IMHO, John C.

I guess I am talking about both. Thanks for your input. That is something to think about.

EMC Style Converts styles with a blank canvas meaning Balances-Volumes-Effects are all eliminated. Just be prepared for hours of tweaking.
