Being new to the JV world, I need to compare purchasing a 2080 vs anything else Rolland has. Does Rollad have lesser models that take the same cards and produce the same results?

The JV 2080 have three multi EFX, the JV1010 have only one.

Hi,

I would say that if you don't care too much about the extra insert fx on the 2080, get one of the "lesser" models like the 1080 or the 1010, depending on which cards you wish to put in.

If you think that you want more than one extra card in the module, don't go for the 1010. However, if you search around, you can probably find a 1080 which will allow you to put in 4 cards total. The 2080 has the best display of all of the units with the others being simple one or 2 line displays.

Aside from the insert fx and the number of expansion slots for cards, all of the units should produce the same results.

I personally think the XP-30 is a good deal, because you get some sound boards already installed and have the ability to add more . That is, if you don't mind the keyboard.

I don't own one, I have the JV-2080, but it seems to be a very cost effective way to get the JV/XP sound sources. For me, the main reason for purchasing the JV-2080 was for the larger LCD display. I thought it would be difficult to program sounds with a small LCD display. I used to program alot of sounds on my keyboards, but have since almost abandoned it, due to the fact that there are so many sounds available in these new synths, that you don't really have to anymore.

Yes, large LCD is the best. But the bundled SoundDiver software that comes with the XP30/JV1010 makes the editing a lot easier, since the JV1010 does not have a LCD. And the SoundDiver JV/XP should work with all the JV/XP synths....

I sold my 1010 & bought a 2080.
I kept a copy of JV/XP Sounddiver. It works in a limited fashion as follows:
Only one efx processor recognized.
Session board must be installed in slot A if you are going to use A. (fixed at session)
B can be any board. None at all beyond B.

But, price is right

Now try this:

- turn off your JV 2080
- start SoundDiver
you'll receive a message the the device does not react
- click Re-scan
another says No new device found
- click Manually
- select JV2080
- turn on the JV

Now SoundDiver display all expansions (XP-A to XP-H), Ram Card and 3 EFX.

I own a 1010 and made an excellent recoed with it;however, they say the converters on the bigger units give more fidelity of the samples played...not that I can tell. Also alot of the boards are bullshit depending on your style of music you might only need 4.So.......I say 1080.800 dollars.
