i'm relatively new to the synth game, and was wondering if anybody had experience with both the jv1010 or alesis qsr?? they are both comparably priced..(around $500), and i was looking to get one. i don't have a computer to do music on, so everything will be hardware based. i plan on controlling the synth with my asrx. anybody who can push me in the direction of which to go for, please gimme feedback.

thanx.

If you aren't using a computer then I would not recommend the JV-1010. It has been designed to be used with a computer, and as a result you can't do any editing via the front panel. There's no way of even seeing the patch names without looking them up in the manual using the patch / bank number.

The sound quality of the QSR is (in my opinion) of lower quality than the JV-1010 range, but has a decent sized screen with reasonable built-in editing. It also has a playback sampler, something which you won't get from a roland synth unless you spend a _lot_ more on an XV-5080.

It may be worth trying to pick up a 2nd hand Jv-1080 or 2080; these won't cost much more than a new '1010.
