Found a couple of Roberts discographies. One lists "Theme From Shaft", with a note that howard wasn't credited, but the belief is, it was him. I'd heard that the "Shaft Guitar Man" was Roberts for years and read it several places, but it may not be true. I'm going to look a little longer this week-end. Always thought it was not exactly Roberts style, but he was a major session player, with over 2,000 credits.

I've run into conflicting info before on certain playing credits. Sometimes players did not get credit. Other times, the infor was just wrong.

I'm really curious about this one!

It's possible that Howard played some of the wha-wha in the score for the movie, but may have copied what Skip did for Isaac Hayes on the original...

Just guessing here, obviously, but there are a lot of cut scenes and incidental music in the movie that use the motif...

The CNN interview pretty much nails it for me (link on the Wiki Pitts page), but, as with most things film score orientated, there are probably a lot of details we'll never know...!

I think you're right. The information I have is that Roberts played on the film score, which was not the same as the Isaac Hayes release.

Whatever, I'm glad to know about another top player...your friend!
