Man, what a day. One Podium 10 blew out. I turned it on and before I could even plug in the 1/4 from my keyboard it blew. No more power, just smoke!

I had to go mono. I put the other speaker in front of my keyboard and it SOUNDED TERRIFIC. So much for the stereo thinking all of a sudden. I still loved the on board speakers as monitors.

My 3rd job tonight came with a nice surprise. They just purchased a Bose Compact house system. So I had the opportunity to try it out with my 800....let me say this.........I WAS BLOWN AWAY...

Anyone selling a Compact?

Nope, I'm not selling one...but, I am considering buying a pair to use in stereo on my S900 (or S910)...I sold my Bose L1's, as I am not doing any more concert stuff, but I still would like to have a relatively small system with basically the same room filling capability.

Zuki - I consider myself lucky to have found my like new Compact on eBay, but I can't say that I've seen any other by-owner ads out there. I saved $200.

Ian - I see a pair of Compacts and maybe a mixer as a great mid-size PA, stereo or not - go for it.

I also own one & am more impressed with it every time that I use it, plus it's very easy on my "tired old back".

Jim,

I'm selling my old L1 (not compact). If you're interested, email or call me.

Bad experience. Stuck me with an 80 return shipping fee. Nasty customer service. Beware - I'm done with them

Zuki, That's too bad. My experience with them was just the opposite. They couldn't have been nicer, and sent out a replacement immediately.
Anyway, you'll LOVE the Compacts.

I really don't remember if I paid return shipping. It seems as if they sent a pickup order for it, but I could be wrong. It was last year sometime.
I would remember if it was anything like %80. though. That's not much less than the speaker cost in the first place.

Yeah! same for me had Podium 10" less then a year used only at home (at most maybe used two dozen times) one of them suddenly got a terrible buzzing sound. Contacted factory direct The said to ship it to them and they would repair or replace it. I did so at $43.00 shipping cost. a replacement is on the way, however this has now made the Podiums not such a good bargain. had they picked up shipping or at least replaced it with newer model 1003 instead of 1002 I would have been much more satisfied.

This is a terrible deal. You are STUCK with their brand with no refund allowance. Don't believe the lifetime warranty - how many times will one pay return shipping expenses. Learned my lesson.

So the bloom is finally off the rose?

Shocking! Cheap Chinese imports are usually SO reliable and safe

Well, you can't really blame new owners for not knowing about reliability... it's something you only get to find out down the road.

Yes that is true...But surely the words "Chinese Made" and "cheap" would have been solid pointers. I would have thought so anyway.

I do feel sorry for Zuki, that money COULD have gone towards a decent system, instead of "Insta-Bargains" on Ebay.

Well don't think it is just Chinese imports. My band just had the midrange horn on our PA JBL cabinet burn out this weekend at a gig. Fortunately we have the Guitar Center extended warranty on it so it will be replaced free of charge.

I hear ya T - I'm just a bit frustrated with this whole thing - especially after yesterday's phone conversation with them.

Mind you, they never sent me a replacement. They have to analyze first to determine if it's a factory defect!

Guess I'll know more next week. Now I'm using the Podium 8s again. I'm holding my breath because they run very hot at 1/2 volume

What JBL line blew, Nigel? Bet you they 'offshore' it...

I have friends, and play in a couple of local joints that use JBL JRX speakers. I have to confess, these are the worst piece of rubbish JBL have ever put out. The horns are constantly blowing, the horns are weak and don't project well (I used to be able to stick my ears right next to the horn while the band was playing full blast and it didn't hurt ) and compared to the SR line, took more power for the same volume.

But, one can hardly blame them for buying these, as addicted as Americans have become to buying the cheapest, nastiest stuff they can find..! At least they can afford SOMETHING, and that, at least, will allow them to ignore the fact that, in the past, their income would have allowed them to buy something that WORKED. You know, were it not for cheap Chinese (and other Far East sites) products, we MIGHT have to face the fact that our Corporate Masters have succeeded in lowering our wages to the point where we CAN'T buy quality any more. Thank God for Podium. Without them, we might have to face up to how shafted the workers (that's us, before you start to pretend you are some kind of CEO just because you are self employed!) have been for the past 30 years.

And, Lord knows, you wouldn't want to piss off the proletariat, would you?

Has anyone thought about the "investment VS profit" in the mix........you buy gear ....you play with it and make a ton of money more then you invested so your NEVER a loser....then when somethings breaks down you complain? It's all part of the music game.....enjoy what you earned and by some more and move on.

Long term investment... high profits, but high initial investment (which you may not have)

Short term investment (keeps blowing up).... smaller profits. But at least you can afford it. And afford it again. And afford it again.

Guess who profits the most from this arrangement... not you, that's for sure.

I beg to differ again....you can always start with good used gear as to not use crap......and then repeat what I have said in the above post without a problem...no need to buy inferior gear. Reinvesting in your gear investments is always a good thing that works FOR YOU !.

Don't you use an S900? Why not a used T2 or T3?

Got to take your own advice before you hand it out to others...

Buying used means you have NO recourse when it goes wrong. Which, being used, it is more likely to than new.

S900 smaller, lighter to transport, and sounds just as good........ after you make all that money with used gear...much more then you spent on it....who really cares...just buy some more and make more money and that advice I follow to this day. You got to spend to earn in this world.

I opted to buy the s900 vs the Tyros3. I had a tyros3 in the house for a weekend. Great board but didn't like it enough and still wanted a Yamaha in my camp.

I wouldn't say the S900 sounds better than the Tyros3, but I like it better for gigging, and the sounds are excellent.

Using an MOTL arranger isn't what it used to be years ago...they now rival the TOTL instruments.

Fran quoted..............
"I think you are wrong about OnlyFactoryDirect..

They work with you with any problems...

They are not in the shipping business..someone always pays freight..

I have dealt with Yorkville, Mackie, Yamaha, Roland...all have you pay freight for repairs...even as a dealer..

You could shop around and use your own shipping account..

Maybe the unit could have be bumped around and a faulty or poor Chinese solder job came loose or shorted out..

Right now I have a pair of 802's and a newly purchased PP1204ca..another super powerful unit..

My bands ..Just in time also use another pair of 802's..
The band Aquanets (I back them sometimes)..have a pair of 802's and a pair of 1503's..That is a total count of 9 (Podium) powered speakers I use..without a single problem..knock on wood..

We use these exclusively now..hardly using the Yorkville set up..

So I am still very positive about OFD..

PS: you can quote me on SZ if you like....OFD needs someone in their corner...Fran"

Goodness gracious, Fran is obviously still lurking around the corridors of SZ, and Donny is relaying ing messages back and forth, why doesn't Fran just post himself?

Sorta like asking the person who is 5 feet away to pass the salt because the person 2 feet away is someone you are not talking to!!!

"Can you tell Fred I am not talking to him" and Fred is sitting next to him..

Sheesh

No, ... but Donny, if Fran is going to offer his opinion from time to time - which he obviously wants to do as this is at least the second time since he 'left' - why does he have to do it through you ? ...
His not 'being here' is self imposed so he can respond anytime he wants and NOT respond or get involved in threads he wants to avoid ...
If people are are going to respond to what Fran 'says' they are going to do it whether it is in YOUR post or HIS ...

In all fairness, Fran actually emailed me that note because he wanted to give Podium some good press. I elected not to put it on the forum, but Donny obviously felt it fine to do so.

Gee I feel important that I'm part of the mystery

I bought a Bose Compact yesterday

Fran got treated no differently that he himself has treated others on this forum. If it was unacceptable to him, perhaps he should have considered that when doing it himself. Many of the members that he slighted (and you still are, Donny) are still here posting and participating.

Obviously, SOME people here have a spine... (and a degree of tolerance).

Okay, he's reading the posts and responding (via 3rd party); how is that not being a part. To me, that's participating; just at a 2nd grade level.

Hey Fran, how you doin'? Luv you, man. Go Eagles (and all that stuff).

But you guys don't get it...he IS still being a part of it, he is just being covert...He has also made contributions to other threads "through" other people too I suspect.

Maybe it's not intended, but it does give the impression of "sneakiness".

I think he should either leave completely, which means no further comment on ANYTHING, or re-join the discussions as himself.

Jim,

Congrats on purchasing the L1 Compact--you, and your audiences, will love what they hear.

Cheers,

No intention on shooting the messenger I don't see the big deal in all this

I hope the Compact is a wise choice and the true test of time will tell, with a myriad of different room configurations and audience count in the days ahead.

If the compact is anything like the L1, you will be really happy and come to the conclusion you made a good choice I think.

Dikki, Years ago I went to a few, but I can see much better on my big 'ol HDTV!
I was at the game when Tom Dempsey kicked his famous field goal.
Maybe before I die, the Saints will have a decent team. Hope springs eternal!

I try to get to at least one a year. Had season ticket access just before Katrina, and went to a bunch. Last year I was at the drubbing the Saints put on the Packers (with a whole bunch of Green Bay musicians from my area!)...

So far, looking good for the Aints. I think this is the year... show a little faith!

arrgggh! Looks like we just went from 'fly Eagles fly' to 'die Eagles die' . Oh well, I'm really starting to warm up to these new post-Vick Falcons. I think Matt Ryan is going to be exceptional and now with the addition of Tony Gonzales.......'ain't no stopping us now'.

See you in November...

Hey chas... that would be a great excuse to come on down to the Big Easy and meet me up for a game (and some good jazz and chow!). Monday Night Football!

Just be prepared to be a 'former Falcons fan' too...

Sounds real good Diki, except......I'm getting a Total Hip Replacement on my right hip on Oct. 8th. According to my surgeon, I'll be on a walker or crutches for 4-6 weeks, and possibly a cane after that. So travel wise, I'm probably done for this year. Anyway, if the Falcons AND Eagles falter, I'll be pulling for your Saints, but only if they're winning (just call me chas bandwagon). I still like the idea, we just have to figure out how to get Russ down there at the same time. I owe him a meal anyway.

As to the football... Oh well, there's always next season (Something many a Saints fan has gotten used to saying )

No they didn't Tony, the Cowboys beat themselves with five turnovers!
Eli did look good though. And the Giants have several injuries. I will have to go look at that new facility when I get a chance. Dallas is closer to me than New Orleans.
Dikki, I only have Sundays and Mondays off the rest of the year. It would be tough for me to get to a game in Nola unless it was Sunday night or Monday night.
The first year the Saints had Bush, they played a pre-season game against Dallas in Shreveport. My youngest son and I went. That's the last pro game I saw in person, but it was a lot of fun. Starters on both teams played most of the first half.
I thought Kolb looked pretty good tonight actually. I'm not sure anybody is going to slow down the Saints' scoring though.

Don.... it's all in the eyes of the beholder ...
The GIANTS left 15 points on the field with 3 FGs instead of TDs and one missed FG ... the game should have been a runaway for them ...
BTW - Jerry's taj mahal is nuts ... with the 'Dallas Cage Dancers' on those platforms it's like a stadium/circus tent/casino/Studio 54 all rolled into one ... and I'm glad Jerry will remember how it opened ... ... never have been a Jerry Jones fan ...

No, I really don't get it. It doesn't seem to jive with Joe's explanation. I made a comment about the Steelers blowing their game against Chicago...What's BS about that?

IMO, you got a chip on your shoulder and rarely does a day go by that you don't make sure everyone knows about it.

You've been acting like a child. As the parent of three teenagers, I know games when I see them. This is tiresome, its boring and its rude.

These are my thoughts, I don't speak for anyone else.

I think Donny likes that phrase because it's easy to spell and punctuate. Next we're going to work on getting some spaces behind those commas .

Donny says that when he hasn't REALLY got anything to say, but he can't bear the thought of himself not saying SOMETHING

'1,2, cha cha'.... I think it's New Jersey for 'I can't think of anything else'

What i guess we all need to do is find a similar phrase that means nothing unless we give it a definition, and then use it whenever we want to needle someone without actually having the balls to REALLY needle them.

Mine will be "you want fries with that?' I mean, how could ANYONE take offense at such an innocent phrase?

Diki, I'm PISSSED at you! Don't you know fries are BAD For YOU? (but they sure taste good, sometimes) LOL!

Hey, how about "1, 2, 3, chomp, chomp, chomp"?
Call it the fries song!

(Chas, notice the liberal use of space between commas)!

Be well, friends!

I've recently gone through some really serious situations with friends and relatives. It helps put all this triviality in perspective.
Life is so short. Be kind to one another because we are not guaranteed a chance to make it up later.

Don... you are SO right, and I am sorry for your pain...

Perhaps it is the REAL WORLD pain that makes people take out their anger and frustrations on this board ... they can vent for or against anything and anyone and not have any responsibility for it ...
I don't have the answer except to say I wish all the BS would end ...
I LOVE it when I see a thread that is actually a good discourse of pro and con on a MUSIC related subject, and it doesn't turn into personal vendettas ...
