Well said, Scott...the real joy is in the creation, although it sure would be nice to be recognized for one's work, including monetary rewards.

Beaky's songs are as good as anything I have heard here (and on the radio), including some tunes written by friend Zuki, who is also a fine songwriter.

To answer Dano's question, the publisher's I've sent my songs to are ones listed in the 2009 Songwriter's Market. I have never paid to have a song evaluated. I have only entered contests that are listed in the 2009 Songwriter's Market, because they screen for scam contests which there are a few.

I've also submitted to several opportunities through Sonicbids which is a pay to play system somewhat similar to Taxi but for songwriters and all other kinds of acts. You pay $5.95 to have an electronic press kit, and then you pay from $5 - $15 to submit to various opportunities. The only good thing about it is that you have access to opportunities that you would otherwise need an agent to have access to. The bad thing is that it costs money for a group of people - musicians who are, generally, one of the poorest paid professions around.

Taxi costs $200 a year + $5 per song submission. I think Sonicbids is a little hotter. I didn't want to spend money on both.

To enter a contest through Sonicbids is the same price as entering the contest with a CD. The advantage of Sonicbids is that you can monitor the traffic on your electronic press kit and see what songs are getting listened to and how often.
