My parents bought my wife and I an Bose L1 compact for a weding anniversay present- pretty cool gift! We going to try it out this week on a few jobs. Tomorrow morning were playing for an organization for retired hipanic bussiness people. Last time we played for them there was lots of dancing. Tues and Wed we have some dinner/dance things also for an older hispanic crowd. This should give me a good idea if the Bose will work for me. I'll keep y'all posted!

Nice gift! You're going to love it. What are you going to run through it?

Thanks. Today I did a gig with my Tyros 2 and my wife sang. We did all Latin stuff for seniors. They liked it and were dancing the whole time. I did have a bit of a problem with feedback from my vocal mic which was going through the T2. I had the compact set up to my side a few feet away. My wife was about 10 feet away from the compact and she was loud but no feed back at all. So were do you guys that use the compact set it up to avoid feed back? Also I'd like a little mixer with reverb. The Bose 4 channel mixer looks nice but pricy...

Today was a good litmus test, doing fairly loud Latin music for dancers. We liked the vocals. I'm going to have to work on the keyboard eq. It was quite bass heavy (to my surprice) Highs quite nice. Mids need work.

First and foremost, the mic usually has a lot to do with feedback problems. Use a super-cardiod or hyper-cardiod mic only.

Next, set up the mic EQs in the keyboard's Mic Settings section, minimize the high and mid EQ and add a bit of low. This should solve your problem.

Good Luck,

Gary

Thanks for the EQ advice, that wored well. Also I'll check the Alesis mixer- looks just like what I need. Last night I did a dinner/cocktail type job (low vloume) The Boss did very well. I set it up behind me on a tray holder and didn't use the poles- basically and ear level. I have to say, for a single unit it sounds great. I'm wondering how two would sound. Also I'm curious as to where you position your compact- behind you, to your side?

To either side and slightly behind, in the 8 o'clock or 4 o'clock position, about 5-6 feet away, works well.

As good as one sounds, two sounds way better! Overkill? Probably, but you are WORTH it!

I position mine directly to my right and it's close enough to me that I can reach over and adjust the volume control.

I never use it without the poles for two reasons.

First, I believe the pole extensions tend to provide some improvement to the mid-range sounds. Maybe it's just the way I hear things these days, but it seems to me to be the case.

Secondly, I believe the low frequency sounds seem to transmit throughout the venue better when the woofer is on the floor. Again, these are my observations ONLY.

As Don stated, two definitely sound better than one, but I cannot justify the added burden of hauling two complete systems, setting them up and tearing them down every day of the week. Maybe I'm getting lazy in my declining years. On the other hand, my wife says I'm getting smarter.

Good Luck,

Gary
