From my perspective, the Samson Q7 is among the best hand-held mics I've come across in decades. I paid more than $100 for mine, which was about 5 years ago. Now, you can get one for $29 and Free shipping from B&HPhoto . I just ordered one to send to a an old friend as a Christmas present.

Cheers,

Gary

I just knew I'd be too late but I was able to get a couple. Hope I like them. I feel kinda like Don and Hank, I really didn't need them but I can't pass up a deal. Plus, any gearaholic can sell, baby, sell!

im thinking of ordering 3, why not?
that's like 3 for the price of 1

sometimes i need to mic up a group of singers, guitar, acoordion players, etc,

and this way they dont have to spit into my beloved AKG :-)

you like the Q7 more than the SM-58?

not more tan the 58 beta

Q7 as in microphone not the Audi Truck :-)

a mic clip alone runs you anywhere from $5-$10, (included)

so that's like getting the mic for $20-$25
can't beat that

RAY004,

you have links for those reviews?

too bad it's not the Q8's on sale,
those look like the Beta 58's, and probably sound better than Q7,

I sprung for a pair too...don't know why..just because Gary talked me into it...

There are always good mic deals to be found...the trick is to find a "good mic"...at a great price..

I have never been a Samson fan...but I figured the mics are worth keeping for guest singers...We often have 3 or 4 guest singers on stage at any given time..so they will come in handy...Maybe they will be as good as my long time favorite AT's PR60's or the all around EV and Shures I use..

This will bring my mic total to 13..

Lee,

I definitely like the Q7 better than the SM-58. In fact, I used a 58 a couple weeks ago while doing a quick set for a friend and after the first song, I took a quick break, went out to my van and got the Q7 so I could finish the set. When I finished the guy who I was filling in for said "How about leaving your mic for me." He used it the remainder of the evening, brought it to me the next day and asked if he could buy it from me. I gave it to him as an early Christmas present and ordered another one today for when I have guest singers.

As for the Beta 58A I found it only slightly better than the SM-58, but for a guy with a deep, baritone voice such as mine it didn't seem to have sufficient sensitivity. I think it's probably well suited for someone with a higher, more powerful voice.

One of the other aspects of the Samson Q7 I really like is the finish. It has a great gripping surface that is non-slip and warm to the touch. No one has ever dropped my Q7, but they're sure dropped most of the others because of the slick finish.

Good luck guys and enjoy the mics,

Gary

hi leezone, Found one review as below:

While buying my Squire PA system the guy went over different mics with me and my band he showed me the Samson the Shure and i do not remember the other one. The Q7 just blew me away i bought two of them because the price was amazing and I had a show in a week. For the time being i use these mics for drum recordings and they give you an excellent sound with no feedback."

Wow! Even tho I was one of the few lucky ones to snag a couple of the CAD D189's, I couldn't pass up another mike at this price. Must be my old Radio days calling me back. Thanks Gary for the heads up on this one.

Hi Gary,

I just ordered 2. I have used '58's since we were both young. I am looking forward to these mics.

Just on the commissions alone would Gary have himself another sailboat.

I'll be spending most of January traveling throughout the sunny south, and yes, shopping for a new sailboat. I have already lined up a half-dozen ranging from 33 to 41 feet to inspect. The trip will culminate with a four-day stopover in Shreveport for the Annual Shreveport Jam, then it's a long drive home and back to work.

Cheers,

Gary

Tony looks like some one woke up and realized they were maybe giving away the farm on that item. Based on Gary's advice I bought a Q7 a couple of years ago. For $29 I just couldn't resist, that's not nearly what a tank of gasoline costs.

leezone .. The law of supply and demand ... they have a supply and suddenly there was a demand .. ... let's see what happens when the demand stops ... after all, it wasn't necessarily the mic, but the price that caused the rush ...

Doing an A/B with my Senn 845, I think the Q7 produces more highs ... my wife was upstairs from the family room where I was testing the mics ... she thought mic #2 - the Q7 - sounded "crisper' ...

I still play that song. I still have an affection for it! For one, I think it's a great song. Second, it was the first I ever learned other than something like "Little Brown Jug." I love to play it and people do like it. I play it as Bob Dylan played it, not like the Animals played it. I mean, the chord progression. Not with my fingers pinching my nose.

I dug one out and used it last night. It's a good mic. I think I prefer the CAD though, at least for my voice.
My favorite for most applications it the AKG D5 though. But it costs a lot more.

Hi Gary,

I got my 2 mics 2 days after I placed the order. They are great mics that will certainly give the 58's a run for their money. Thanks for the tip. Since the price has gone back up, I feel very lucky.

Thanks again,
