I think the technology that allows us to do this sort of thing is amazing, but it begs the questions, just because we can, should we ?

I find this sort of thing kind of spooky and wrong on a number of levels. The guys is no longer with us and video's like this come across to me as more like sad people trying to cash in on his popularity. It's sort of disrespectful in my opinion, not to a level that bothers me, but just something I don't care for.

Which reminds me... here's an odd little story which probably explains why I find this sort of thing kind of wrong.

A few years back I was contacted by a Girl who just got married and she wanted me to do some CGI / Photoshop work on her wedding photo's.

Basically her parents had passed away a few years before so he wanted me to scan photo's of her parents and clone them into her wedding photo's.

Spooked the hell out of me and I thought it was actually kind of sick to do that, but she wanted this done so badly she cried.

I did what she asked and it made her so happy she cried her eyes out again in a big way. I really felt seriously uncomfortable, you have no idea. I'm not the best in the world anyway when it comes to thinking of my own mortality and the question of is there life after death and so on. But cloning in dead people to your wedding photos....man that's not only odd, it's bloody spooky.

Regards
James

It's a great production and use of technology, no doubt it. I was never an Elvis fan, but I gotta say that's a great segment that does a terrific job of spotlighting what a talent he was.

I won't comment on the social issue of whether it's right or wrong. I just sat back and enjoyed it which I believe was Tony's point.

Ditto!
I enjoyed very much both listen and watch this video.

That is, indeed, a weird request there, Sharpy. Like yourself, I find this sort of thing schlocky/mawkish on a certain level. I think it started with Natalie and Nat King Cole being synthesized together on Unforgettable. I found that a bit 'off', as well. But, as others have said, it is possible to sit back and enjoy it for what it is, so on another level, it does have some merit, I suppose.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I can only hope that songs I have written will be remembered after I'm gone. Not that he wrote this one, but I'm a songwriter, he's a recording artist. He's gone, yes, but, he's really not. And that is one heckuva legacy. Stuff like that just perpetuates his memory with another generation. I think it's pretty cool. Interesting that in this video, Martina looks alot like Priscilla Presley used to look.

Not a big fan of either one, so means little to me, either way, other than as an example of technology.

I was kind of 'raised' on Elvis so I was (am?) a fan, being of that age, and I think Martina has a lot of talent ...
As for the 'social' issue, to me it just accentuates something I've said since I started realizing what could be done with digital photography - I find it difficult to believe anything I see unless it 'live' ...

PS: Semi - I was thinking of how '60's' she looked, but you are right about Priscilla ...

I think the first one of these I heard was a compilation of Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline doing "Have You Ever Been Lonely". They were both dead at the time, but it came out beautifully.
I liked this one too. I like Elvis and Martina is a good singer. I think it shows the timelessness (is that a word) of music.

Then this must be yet another example of Great Minds Thinking Alike...
