Does anyone know a program to convert midi files into mp3 files ??
I need a midi to mp3 convertor. if anyone happens to have one please just email it to me thanx!!!

That's a bit more complicated than just pushing a button. You can download a free trial of Pyro (by Cakewalk), but you still have to record your midi file as AUDIO first, then convert it to MP3.

With Acid Pro 3, you can load a SMF as a track, it will then automaticaly convert to a audio track[you must have a GM compatible sound card].. You than simply save as a MP3..It is a no brainer with this software..Sorry,it is not free ware, you have to buy it..

Befor people start buying software here, I think I just have to remin you of something:

A MIDI-mp3 og MIDI-wav converter is as simple as impossible! A midi file only stores which keys are being pressed on the synth, control changes and other commands recognized by the synth. It is the synth that actually makes the sound.

So, if you want to record audio from your synth into mp3, you really need a harddisk-recording-card to record the SOUND from the synth.

General MIDI (GM) is possible of course, but very very weak compared to what the XP can do. It has to use one of only pre-defined 128 sounds....

It is not impossible with Acid Pro 3, When the midi file is loaded into a track it converts via your wave table utilizing your sound card[it is just like as if you played it, but done thru the software], and much quicker. The quality of your sound source is important. I use Roland's VSC88 wavetable and it works fine.[BTW the drums on the wavetable put the factory drums on the XP to shame]..Fran

Indeed it is.

But what you are saying is that you are no longer really using your JV/XP as your sound source anyway.

If you take a sequence and switch sound sources, you can bet it won't sound the same; quite apart from the sounds themselves being different (as you say your rhythm kits are), you would have played (created) the sequence differently through a different sound source to begin with.

So this is not quite as simple as just having ACID convert it. *If* you are genuinely starting from the JV/XP.

And this doesn't address the issue of the .svq sequence parameters not included in the SMF protocol (though you guys may be starting with SMFs anyway).

I was just saying--since this is a JV/XP forum--that if you start from the JV/XP platform, and certainly if you start from the XP sequence platform (.svq), it will be more complicated than just dumping it to ACID and converting. That's all.

No ofense, I was trying to clarify my answer, stay COOL as the Acid Pro3 software..

Of course you can have a software generate sound from a MIDI-file, but it will not sound like you expected.

If the MIDI-file is made for the JV/XP-platform, then it probably will not sound anything like the original. It's the same as with GM..
