Hi

Can anyone recommend a decent Piano patch ?

I have the Orchestral expansion board (on XP-60) but it's Piano patches are rubbish. Appart from anything else have a hideous high frequency procussion effect (just as the notes are struck) that does my ears in.

There are a couple of pianos that come with the board but the're not great either.

The "Session" board seems to me to be better (??)... but I couldnt find any other instruments that were credible on it.
[Actually there may have been a decent Demo Nylon Guitar and not a bad sax - but nothing else !!]

And what I really cant find anywhere is a decent Piano Accordion. I want soft musette (ie Scottish) plus hard musette (ie French).
And I dont want any octaves - just the two/three reeds of similar pitch, all sounding at once - producing a vibrato affect a little like strings.

As I write this I realise I might be able
to go in and switch some tones off. However
I still suspect that the tones wont give me a decent "Honner" sounding instrument !

Alec

The on board sounds (and the EXP board sounds as well) will give you all the tools you need to "customize" the sound you are looking for. The attack portion of the piano sample can be taken out, accordians can be layered and detuned - you have to get into the editing section now. No one manufacturer can predict what every listener will like, so you have the power to change the sounds, and alter them to your liking.
Try messing with the accordians - use two different samples (tones) and detune one slightly - this will get you closer to the sound you described. Also try a little chorus or flanger (light) to add that "motion" sound.

Thanks for the tips. This sounds promising.

Out of interest, Uncle Dave, can one buy non-Roland (ie cheaper) patches elsewhere ? i.e. either as expansion cards or in some way load them up from my XP-60s floppy disk ?

Alec
P.S. Sorry for newbie question!

There is almost always "third party" support for all the major brands. I don't know of any sites off hand, that cater to the XP60, but do a few general "searches" for sound data, or patch data and see what comes up!
