Diki, you mentioned this in a previous post. Sounds like a fun project. How would we do it? What tune? Who would do what? I could get my drummer to put down tracks from the DM10 but I'm not set up to mike acoustic drum tracks (you'd have to do that if that's what you wanted). Could we get a few other SZ guys involved? Would any want to . Russ plays both guitar and organ so we could possibly get some real guitar tracks. Then of course, there's Rory (if he would do it) who could probably do any part from kazoo to tuba . Russ could probably also do some nice horn lines (I like doing those but mine sound kind of amateurish). Plenty of good singers, depending on the genre'. Once we came up with a basic track, maybe one or two would volunteer. I'd love to get Randy (Saxxman) in on it; I really like some of his stuff, especially the Boney James/jazz fusion type stuff. Naturally, in addition to your piano duties (and anything else you want to contribute), you would have the honor of mixing and mastering this masterpiece. If it's a hit, after I take my 50%, you guys can split the rest .

Seriously, this could be a fun project if we don't take it too seriously or rush it. If there is a conflict of ideas, we could always do alternate versions once we agree on a basic rhythm track/(s). Just no midi and no arranger styles. What do you think? No deadline, no pressure. Any other solid players, amateur or pro, that want to participate, speak up (preference given to those who have played in a GOOD band and/or have good arranging skills/experience). No guarantees, though, that your contribution would make the final cut (decided by committee ).

LET'S DO IT!

It's a fairly simple task to email a mix for someone to add parts, and send back to the writer your extra parts. I do it a lot for clients and friends.

In all fairness, I don't mind if it is arranger drums, or DM10 patterns with overdubs (yours sounded fine) or whatever it is, I wasn't really thinking put a first call album together! Just that, it would be fun to lay a part or two down on something you send, back and forth, that kind of thing. Maybe, only after we have tried it for fun a couple of times would it be worth pushing it to the next level if it shows promise...

Thing about it, as far as I am concerned, would be to limit it to just a tiny bunch of us, especially at first. Open collaboration like this can easily get out of hand if it opens up too much. Maybe later, once the flow is worked out...

Email me privately, if you want to work out in more detail how this is doable. Just remember, I'm kind of suggesting this as just a casual fun thing, nothing major. Just two old guys having fun

In the past, I've done this kind of work for years. Right now, I'm a little limited by damage to my left hand and have had to respectfully turn down several projects recently.

But, this is FUN STUFF, and I'm working hard to get the feeling back in my left hand. There's a surgery proposed, but there's a 50% chance the pain would go away, some of the feeling would come back, but I'd lose strength and speed.

It's kinda wierd. Sometimes, I'm driving down the street and I hear a completed jingle I contributed to months before, and have no idea who the other players were. Sometimes, when I was doing my part, I didn't even know the name of the client.

You guys would "knock it out of the park". And I'd be glad to try to do anything possible with mostly my right hand.

GO FOR IT!

Russ

Nigel,
That was uncalled for, your halo (and mine)is slipping.
With all of Russ's talents, he surely must be ambidextrous anyway. (Yes I had to look that up).
These fellas talk a lot, I too would be interested to hear the end result, which I am sure it will be a knockout.

Nah Ray I have never worn a halo. They just don't look right on me And if I never wear them I don't have to worry about them slipping.

Uh oh, I can see where this is going. Diki, let's pull the plug on this right now, at least as far as any public posting. Unless I'm reading this wrong, the "talk a lot" comment implies that we never post any music, which is just not true. I don't think I want to set myself up (or you) as a target, so I'm saying let's just forget about it or at least, just keep it private. I'll email you a couple of basic rhythm tracks. I'm really impressed with the DM10. Such a huge amount of voices. The quality varies from so-so to great. Not quite on par with the top level software drums but better than what's in the average keyboard. The kit itself is quite responsive and at least one of the cymbals (ride) is triple triggered. You'd never mistake it for an acoustic kit, though. There are also a couple of very good bass voices in the module. Wish you had a chance to try it (hint: come on up ) and compare to your kit.

chas... I am REALLY disappointed that you would let one person's statement (whether it WAS meant the way you read it or not) ruin what I think would be a wonderful experience for the rest of us ...
And SO WHAT if someone gives a negative review ... haven't we ALL lived through that?!? - some far more than others??? ...
C'mon .. I'm sure Diki wouldn't be bothered by anything ... put those 'castagnas' you were born with in gear and get this thing going - PUBLICLY -
I and others here would certainly appreciate it ...

Way I see it, should anything come from it eventually, I see no problem posting it here. I know it'll have a boatload of G70 on it, no matter WHAT else goes on!

Thing is, we only just started talking about doing it, and don't need goading along. If it happens, it happens. Just for giggles and grins, not to appease anyone that may be wondering if the talk matches the walk. We've both posted plenty of music for those that wonder if the collar and cuffs match

I know everything chas has posted has always made me want to 'sit in', and once the workflow is managed, getting other 'guests' in on it will be fun, too. But too many cooks will quickly spoil this broth, and you can't rush a good gumbo (is that a mixed meataphor? ), so have patience, everybody...

Diki... I've got patience ... just never know if I've got the TIME ...
I've shown to be a fan of the music you and chas produce, and throw Russ into the mix and it's got to be good ... that's why I am anxious to hear it, but I am not pushing anyone ... like love, when it happens, it happens
Now start laying down some tracks, dammit !!! ...

My! My ! we are very snsitive at times. Please read the whole sentence and you may realise you have taken a light-hearted sentence out of context. No apology required, no apology forthcoming.
Still think the idea promising!!!!!!!
