I want to get a two tier keyboard stand, to put an imac on the second tier.

My question is, will the tier bend to become straight? I don't need my imac sliding down...

Thanks.

How about something like this:

laptop mount

maybe you could fix it to your current stand?

Quick-Lock makes a number of two-tier stands that are more than adequate, heavy-duty and relatively inexpensive. I use the QL-742, which was recently replaced by the QL-642.

Quick-loc has accessory shelves that attach to their stands and work well for a laptop or mixer...I have one and it works super.
I use the right hand side for laptop and the left for my Mackie mixer.

Also, I have a on stage stand (2 tier) and the tier arms are adjustable in angle, so you couls put your own long shelf on as well.

Shim are you going to use the stand for gigs or is it for a studio setting?

I purchased a the following item from Staples for use in my home studio. I usually have a Music Pad Pro and a 15 inch laptop on the top tier, it works very well. This can easiy accomodate a 20 inch iMac or the newer 21.5 inch iMac.

One of my boards sits on the desktop area. The desktop is large enough to fit a G70, Pa2xPro, Tyros 2 or any PSR series board. It also has a slide out drawer for your computer keyboard if needed. I chose not to install the computer keyboard drawer.

Here's the link : http://www.staples.com/Z-Line-Designs-Galaxy-Glass-Computer-Desk/product_580535?cmArea=page_rr

Quiklok also makes a sit down version of that stand so you can put pedals underneath. QL 695, its very sturdy. Have been using it since the days I played bass pedals, two keyboards and a drum machine. Somehow I miss those days.

Thanks everyone.

Stephenm52:
I'm using it for a studio setting. Not live...

Btw thanks for the tip!
That stand looks like exactly what I need, except its a bit too expensive right now.

What I want to know is: will the second tier (of either a two tier stand; or just by purchasing "tier 2") become straight? Meaning does it bend?

Again, thanks everyone for your replies.

While i'm at it, does anyone know of a keyboard stand (perhaps even 2 tier) that can go lower then traditional stands?

Most stands i use do not have a comfortable level, but i know a guy, quite short, and he manages to have a lower then average stand...

Thanks

There are 2 problems:

- Looking up at a computer for extended periods will hurt your neck. I tell you from experiecne.

- I wouldn't balance anything expensive on the second tier of a keyboard stand. I knock and your imac is history.

Chony,

In my case the laptop is held in place by a couple Velco strips and never leaves the platform. You can turn the platform upside down and the laptop stays in place. And, as you can see the platform sits just over an inch above the top of the keyboard, but does not interfere with access to any of the keyboard's buttons. No stiff neck either.

You can find detailed plans for constructing the platform Here

Good Luck,

Gary

I know where there is one of these for sale used: http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--ULTAX90
I'll have to ask the price, but it will be reasonable.
Let me know if you are interested.

I suggest the Apex stand also. When I was using my laptop, the second tier held laptop nice and straight, as high or low as you need or want.

BTW - am I the only one who understood Shim to mean that he wanted the second tier to bend to become straight? I think we see many double keyboard stands with the upper keyboard tilted. He wants his second tier to be straight so the laptop won't slide. Am I right, Shim?

Apex stands are a real pain if you use foot pedals and you sit to play. Great for standing though.

cass. Indeed your right! That is my main question... As the imac is a bit heavy and can fall...

Thanks everyone for the suggestion, I would get the apex but its a bit out of the budget now... Thanks again

Shim, Ultimate, On-Stage and QuikLok have several add-on second tiers that can be used straight. You shold be able to find something for around $50 or so.

Shim,
Like I said before...the on-stage stand (2 tier) second tier arms are adjustable. Yes, it can go to level (paralel to the floor).

Not expensive and very nice & strong as well.

I have two of these On Stage 2nd Tiers. They are certainly rugged enough to hold even large keyboards. The only thing I don't like is that the height is set at approx 7.5 in between keyboards(depending on the height of the bottom one). The tilting arms are on ratchets(very secure),but run only about $30 and are universal.

He's not talking about a laptop. He's talking about an imac. It's basically a computer balancing on one foot.

Chony,

You can put anything on the laptop platform, I-mac, laptop, female singer, bottles of booze, anything. It's extremely strong, versatile, and the price is right.

Cheers,

Gary
