I usually play One man band style, however im progressing to play with a band too, which will include a drummer.

Does anyone here know of a good keyboard (NOT for beats/onemanband/arranger etc.) for bass and chords mainly, around 1k?

Understand that im coming from Yamaha Psr and tyros arranger keyboards...

Thanks

Shim....just use your arranger in split mode...left hand bass and right hand..what ever sound you need..

Turn off the arranger mode..

I tried the M50 and the M3 and i think the M50 will be a real kick for you if you can accept not having after touch, it have real nice sounds and even the KARMA engine if you buy the software addons.

Only negative sides for a yammaha user is that the conventionnal sounds like brass, guitar etc.. are more dull that Yammie with their full articulations stuff but for me i prefer it like that as i want to add the effect myself.

I choose the M3 as i'm really tripping on aftertouch and i was able to budget it.

Oh the M50 keys are much like the psr spongy feeling if you like that.

There's also the Yamaha Mo6 or Mo8 that have more yammie sounds (they tell that the sounds comes fromt he Motif flagship so it's the sounds you should be use to)

Good Luck
MJ

Fran, I currently have Tyros 2.

But I want "a different sound", AND portablity.

Jammer, Thanks for the info.
I dont care if it has psr key feel, however is that including the tyros 2 key feel?
Does the M50 work like the M3?
If the answer is yes, you know how to use it don't you?

Btw, what venue is your m3 or wtvr used for? Live in a band? Studio?

you can get a new casio wk-200 for under $200.
weighs only 16 lbs, 76 keys, looks a lot more
pro than older casio boards. sounds are very good put through a good system, just set up a split. action/feel are not top notch but for
the price quite acceptable. and..when you want rhythms, internal speakers, and more you have them. you have to use headphone jack out, but
if you need standard 2-jack the wk-500 is only
$100 more

Shim, i don't know the tyros 2 keys, just the psr and it's spongy like that (a bit more rigid maybe)

The M50 is much like the M3, sames OS, sames screen etc..(only you need the software addons to programm the KARMA engine that is a kind of auto accompagnement but really not like the arranger world, it's algorithmics so verry big)

My view is that M3 more studio and M50 more to gigs as it's a really light keyboard (M50-61: 14.9 lbs, M50-73: 17.6 lbs, M50-88: 45.86 lbs)

For now i'm using the M3 for studio works and we'll see later what happend

take care
MJ

Ahh I so hope Korg put the Karma engine in the new PA3x Pro.

Shim don't forget to check out the Korg TR series. These use the Triton Engine and sound so beautiful. http://www.korg.com/Product.aspx?pd=191

His cheaper brother is the Korg x50 http://www.korg.com/product.aspx?&pd=253

Almost forgot. An other great option is of course the Roland Juno G or Juno Stage

The thing that strikes me is, if a keyboard's sounds aren't good enough to gig with a live band, why is it good enough to gig with as an arranger?
