Are the data memory ram cards for the XP30, ( either 2mb or 4mb ) a standard or generic type of memory card that might be used with other digital devices, such as digital cameras or hand held PCs'? I'm wondering if I might be able to just get them anywhere... like CompUSA, or BestBuy. Seems no music stores even have these in stock.

You can use any SmartMedia Card from most retailers, however be sure to get the proper voltage as they are available in 3 and 5 volt types. You can only store a whopping pile of Patches/Performances on them though, and they access like a solid-state disk drive that must be transferred into the User area.

Hi David,

I have an XP-30 and was wondering what voltage cards the XP-30 uses. Is it 3 or 5? Also, do you know if the XP-30 has trouble excepting higher capacity cards (16 MB, etc)? If you know, I'd apprectiate it if you could tell me.

Sincerely,

Zingrin Shishak

Hi Zingrin!

I own a Roland XP-30 and don't use a SmartMedia-card. I usualy store my pathces with SoundDiverXP-software. Ofcourse I've tried something (who doesn't like to experiment) and I can only tell you that a 2MB 3,3V SM-card doesn't work! I know because I tried various ones I borrowed from some friends. My conclusion therefore is that you need the 5V SM-cards. I didn't buy one yet, because they're hard to get here in the Netherlands. There's only the 3,3V-cards for digital camera's etc. and nowadays they're only available with a memorycapacity of 16MB and more. My advice: don't buy a 3,3V SM-CARD! It probably won't work. Can't guarantee you a 5V-card will work however. To be sure I'd buy a Roland SM-card (2 or 4 MB). A bit more expensive though...

Good luck!
