I am just back from one gig with the vArranger² software and the Ketron SD2.

During the pause, I took pictures with my Nokia N95

You're using a Mac booted into Windows?

Yes Windows 7 on bootcamp

I have a 500 gb 7200 RTM hard drive with 2 partitions

It is very stable I love it

I also installed the latest MAC OSX.

It is nice to have the best of the 2 world in the same machine.

I have some questions about this vArranger.

would i be able to use my motif XS as a sound module for the software?

can i import style files from Yamaha PSR keyboards or any other keyboard like korg or roland into the vArranger or is it a proprietry file format?

using a computer keyboard can u short cut the keys so u can easily trigger off fills / breaks / intros / variations in realtime like as if u were using an arranger keyboard?

I am very interested in this software. where can i get a demo version or see it in live action on a video?

thanks
Nick

Ditto I've got the same set up on my Mac Book Pro. Works like a charm.

Nice set up Dan!

I have been bursting to try this program and only just managed to find my USB-MIDI cable, it looks very good indeed. Not 100% certain about using it live though. Obviously works well for Dan though.

Nick you do realise this program costs about 375 Euros, around $500 Oz??

I too was looking at it, but the price is way to high imho.

I've got a friend who is going to build me a Hackintosh. Basically, a Windows PC with some Boot ROM hacks that's runs as a Mac, for about 1/5th the price. Quad core Intel, PCIe slots, Firewire and USB2, nice powerful graphics card...

My 2001 Mac is starting to show its' age (still great for music, bombproof with VST5 as host), especially online (web 2.0 simply leaves it draggin' ) so it was time to get a new general purpose machine, and the Hackintosh seemed the only way I can afford one...

But it will still boot Windows, Bootcamp or Parallels, etc.. But my friend still makes a point of disconnecting the Ethernet cable when he boots into Windows! You simply can't let a Windows machine online if you've got a Mac to do it instead. Hassle free surfing, browsing, working online without the issues that still trouble Windows users (I know some will break in here and tell me they have no issues, but try surfing without ANY software to prevent spyware, pop-ups, malware of ANY kind, viruses, trojans, you name it... you can do that on a Mac!). Heck, I don't even KNOW an IT guy!

Might be fun to try some virtual arrangers now I can run Windows (AFAIK, there isn't one for Mac) and some more CPU hungry VSTi's like we have at the studio...

I'll keep you posted on the project...

The war between mac lovers and windows users will never stops

Please I don't want to talk about it again

But I am happy to use the best of the 2 world inside the same PC.

By the way, software arrangers is not a big market, that's why the leaders of the software instruments companies will never release one.

I am now working since 3 years on this project.

I did it first because I need it.

Sometimes I have to play far away from Paris, So I have to take airplane or train. and my SD1 was very heavy !!!!

So now I take My small SD2 with my laptop and rent any midi keyboard in the place where I will play. And I have approx the same sound like before with my SD1. And just copied the style I used to play with the SD1 into the vArranger folder, and I can play with them direct, without any tweeking.

Before starting this adventure, I bought all the software arrangers existing in the market. But got frustrated by how far it was from what i wanted it to be. Simple and sounding as pro keyboards.

It is a very small market, a long time devlopment (like any hardware arranger) and a so amazing software...

I think I am not so objective

Maybe this will inspire some evolution on the arranger market.

Dan
