I'm learning some Jimmy Buffett and I enjoy playing pretty much all kinds of music including his, but I don't listen to this kind of stuff.

So, besides Margaritaville, what are the one's people will actually recognize and want to hear.

I just learned Come Monday. Been playing around with Pencil Thin Mustache, don't know if that's a biggie or not. I see he did Hey Good Lookin', and Stars Fell On Alabama, but I'm thinking these were not his biggies.

"Cheeseburger" and "Margaritaville" are probably the most recognizable Buffet tunes. I do the Wiki list that Bernie referred to ... minus 'Let's Get Drunk ...' I only get to do these tunes for the CC pool opening parties although, I'll be doing a night at a 3 day Margarita Festival in August, and that's the only other venue , for me, that calls for Buffet tunes.
Ciao,
Jerry

I like A Pirate Looks at 40.
I'm sure Russ likes just about all of them, but hasn't got the Tequila ratio worked out correctly to really enjoy them.

Don't forget Volcano... Son of a Sailor, He went to Paris, and many, many others.

The thing is, Buffett's songs really aren't that much different to any other pop stuff. If you can't play them without sounding cheesy, who's fault is THAT?

You've probably got a couple of dozen songs in your repertoire with chords as banal, and words as clichéd. But you don't roll your eyes every time you get THOSE requested, do you? Give the man some respect!

Anyway, every time I drive past some poor sap out roofing in 98º weather in July in Florida, I go 'Margaritaville..? HELL YEAH! As many times as you want it..!'

FWIW (nothing) Jimmy Buffet earns $100 million a year.

He goes to Paris is a fabulous song... and it's a true ballad, there is no chorus or refrain.

A Pirate Looks At Forty has a similar vibe... showing that he has a "sensitive" side in addition to his partying ways.

Part of the reason Jimmy Buffet gained fame was because he didn't give a rip. He said "pissed it away so fast" in A Pirate Looks At Forty and then he wrote the infamous Let's Get Drunk. In the 70s, you just didn't write those types of things. As a college student, of course, I reveled in Let's Get Drunk. I couldn't believe anyone would put a song out like that! Wow, what courage! His happy-go-lucky persona endeared him to millions and almost nobody in music has such a loyal following.

I fully agree with Bill. The songs listed above, plus several others, are extremely popular, and if you have a good to excellent voice and can put some feeling into the songs themselves, your audiences will love them.

I, and most of my senior audiences, are huge Buffett fans. He's an avid fly angler, he fished my one of my best friends Lefty Kreh and he's a great entrepreneur.

One of the best books I've read in years was Jimmy Buffett's Tales From Margarettaville, which is available from Amazon. I highly recommend it for anyone that is light of heart.

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays is probably the best "best of" Buffett album for music prior to 2000. It's live and it's very representative.
