Frank,

Where the hell did they get the name from LIONSTRACS. You are lucky Frank you got all day Friday to play with it, my Fridays gone. When you do the demo just play, there are too many knobs, sliders and buttons and leds to go through. "Whiter shade of Pale" will do Hammond C3 look a like will do! Turn the shop lights off the Groove leds will light it up! Watch the electric meter go spinning round.

I see some great comparison matterial ...

Tyros, Motif, Audya

Just spoil us with some comparisons...

Atleast the red looks better then the dull grey.

Dnj,

I'm with you, I want data on the GROOVE X7 it looks good, I don't know where the Taiwan chaps going. Frank did a good little demo on the Audya a year back, this is a different machine.

Cheers Tony

What do you want to know Tony ?
The content that comes with the keyboard is a massive Giga Library. Out of the box I believe there's upwards of 30GB of data to play with.

More sounds than you can imagine

James,

I think it's worth a try I might jump in, can't be any worse than Audya, do you want to answer that James.

Thanks James

Guys,

I'm trying to get my hands around this monster. It has endless possibilites.

I keep finding new things to play with and I end up getting sidetracked.

So far I have found some incredible sounds, and I also like the way when a sound is selected you have instant access to fx, cutoff, release and such without going into menus.

It will take a while for me to get profecient enough to give a demo. It is a deep piece, I would say perfect in a studio, and with some work a great gigging board. It is lighter than the past mediastation and seems allot quicker with functions.

More to come

Frank,

I have always considered you to be a straight guy who would not sell anyone anything that was shoddy, you know a few of us have had problems with Audya and I dont want to highjack your thread, you have gone very quiet on Audya for a while now and know you have a new product. I dont want to put you on the spot but how do they compare bearing in mind that the X7 is much cheaper and lots more leds. I am going to get one there is no doubt now, the more I here it.

Cheers Tony

Thanks Tony,

I haven't said much about the Audya just because everyone else seems to be. To be completely honest with everyone, is that I make more money selling a Korg or Yamaha before selling a Audya. That said, I gig mostly with the Audya. I have had some software issues, and I have had a few customers who have had problems with the Audya like software and especially soundboards.

As comparing the X7 to the Audya isnt as straight forward as you may think. the X7 is more pf a full fledge production station with an open ended system, the Audya is a 1 man band arranger.

I probably would not take the X7 out on a arranger gig, I would take it if I was doing a band gig.

I know the X7 can do allot , I haven't played with the arranger section yet, but I believe that is a add on to the X7 and not its main thing, so I would put the X7 more in the M3/Motif arena than the arranger arena, but it can do arranger stuff.

So far, more to come

Frank,

Just because others are gossiping about Ketron and Audya does not mean you cant lets us all what is going on with Ketron, you are as perhaps nearer to them than any of us. Why cant people get rapid support for sick KBs, why do emailed replies from Ketron take forever and come back as garbage or buck passing. I hope that MS dont prove to be the same for your sake or this will be a double Italian whammy. The MS looks the dogs but no proper support and no parts if things go wrong. Sorry to dig in to your thread but I thought it had ground to a stop. Can you enlighten us all on what you see the future of the existing Audya, is it doomed like the SD1 with the SD1+ and all the other unfinished symphonies, I can see why you might take on MS in the light of recent events with Ketron, I would be looking at something that does have a future even though not a track record yet, but surely no one can get it as wrong as Ketron. I have a sneaky feeling Frank I think your fire a 9mm automatic and from the front we cant see how many are left in the mag. There is a good reason why Audya are on back order and I dont think this is demand in excess of supply, Ketron are holding back Frank why! And on the OS4 samples and styles promised by the invisible man, he will never be taken seriously ever again.

Cheers Frank

I can only speculate, I know the sounds and samples for OS4 are complete and are out to some beta testers. I still am not an official beta tester, so I get my hands on what I can.

I'm not sure of the delay in replacement parts, the only thing I can think is that they haven't been produced yet, so that is what the delay is.

I have a few people waiting for parts and unfortunately my hands are tied, I can only do so much, I wish I was higher up in the Ketron family, but I'm probably 1 notch up from most customers.

As for the Groove-X7, Domenico has been very helpful and quick to respond on any questions of mine.

Also the Groove-X7 is a much different animal, I wouldn't even consider it in the same genre.

I think you could sell a bunch of them, mainly because, unlike most dealers, you took the time to learn something about the machine.

Nice. Only 39.6 lbs so it's not too heavy although it's almost 3 lbs 'heavier' than my Fantom G7.

Okay, so Domenico is back to making 76 key workstations which is a good thing but I still have a few qualms regarding the Groove X-7. With a touch screen interface it seems to be very awkward to navigate around the X-7 since much of the type print is very small and if you're not careful when pushing it you might be prone to making many mistakes because of the minuscule links. It would have been more advantageous, in my opinion, to include a USB "mouse" interface which would make choosing items much more precise if you ask me. In other words, giving the customer a choice of using the touch screen or a "mouse" to navigate if they want. Maybe there already is 'mouse' capability since the motherboard itself most likely already supports that function although maybe not in the context of the Groove X-7 keyboard itself.

Another beef is the specs on the Lionstracs website doesn't list the amount of polyphony for the X-7 and also the lack of a "front" USB card reader is rather disappointing too.

The Fatar TP9 keybed is pretty good but not top of the line I might add. When you pay over $5,000 ( 4.390,00) for a keyboard I would like to think you'll get a top of the line keybed included along with it. I know, I know.. nit picking I agree, but nevertheless.

Now the BIG QUESTION regarding the X-7 is the "lack" of comprehensive "arranger" functionality and may indeed quell many arranger keyboardists enthusiasm regarding the X-7, especially at that astronomical price that Domenico is asking for it.

Having said that, Frankieve didn't seem to have any difficulty selling the first one he had in stock which is encouraging for Frank and Domenico both. But the 'lack' of comprehensive "arranger" functionality may be its biggest drawback - after the price that is. I mean c'mon! This is an arranger forum packed full of arranger players and we insist on "comprehensive" arranger functionality in our arranger keyboards. At least I do anyway. To each his own I suppose.

Hey, I wonder if Fran bought that X-7 off Frank? Or maybe Don Mason?? >> The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting... HEY! LOL

All the best,
Mike

Under the Lionstracs interface you don't have to touch the screen at all. All the buttons directly control everything displayed and running on the keyboard,

The only time you have to use the screen is when want to directly modify settings in a VSTi or interact with the Linux desktop.

You can connect anything you like to the keyboard. Keyboard, Mouse, even bluetooth. It's got PS/2 and USB on the back.

It's not a hardware keyboard by where the number of notes it can product are limited.
The number of notes it can produce is purely down to the CPU speed and the software your running at that moment in time.

So pick any number you like because there's no way to quote exact poly. You are looking at somewhere in the range of hundreds of notes though. Either way you look at it no closed keyboard could come anywhere even remotely close to the poly you can get from a Lionstracs keyboard.

You start to run out of polyphony quite quickly when you start running those Arturia modeled synths. Layer up a few to get a monster sound, and you can be back to almost hardware analog voice counts... Look at the Arturia Origin for some real world figures.

You'll get hundreds of voices if you stick to simple GIGA sample playback, but modeled sounds need a LOT more horsepower...

Once you create that monster sound, sample it, and your back to hundreds of polyphony left over.

That how you oversimplify and impossible task
