Here in Israel, you can't find all the high-end keyboards. You can order them, but you need to pay for them (-:

Anyway, can you name the keyboards that has the most realistic drums in styles?
I an the owner of PSR-3000, and although it is a great keyboard, all Yamaha's drums are dull.

If you can add some demos to prove your choose it will be great!

Agree with Taike, Ketron ... the SD series boards and Midjay have very nice drums as well.

Yes.

Even the relatively inexpensive Ketron SD2 sound module has rather nice drumkits in it.

Connect the MIDI out of your keyboard to it and you have an upgrade in sound without paying the cost of replacing the entire keyboard.

Having played nearly all the TOTL and MOTL arranger keyboards during the past year the only statement I could make about this is they're ALL very good. Much of this will depend upon how the keyboard and the PA is EQ'd, which is the case with any electronic instrument. The Ketron drum sounds seem a bit harsh or crisp in comparison to Yamaha, Korg and Roland. Much of this, however, is somewhat subjective, and more often than not it is style dependent. With some styles, you will want the drums a bit subdued, while with others, techno, rock, dance, etc.., you would probably want hotter drums. And, with some TOTL keyboards, you can assign certain features to independent outputs. Sorry if this sounds confusing, but like I said, this particular component is very subjective.

Good luck on your decision,

Gary

IMO, Ketron Audya, is far superior to anything I've heard.

I've seen that video.
If it is really the Tyros4 I will not buy any Yamaha keyboard in the future...

And maybe the solution for me is indeed a module and not an entire keyboard.

You could midi/usb out channel 10 to any drum source for the sound you like.

I'm truly amazed at those that are condemning the Tyros 4 after one demo, not even knowing if it is even an actual T4 demo

If drums are what your looking for, you should get the Audya. But as a Jewish musician who plays at Jewish weddings (mainly Chabad), Yamaha and Korg should also be serious considerations.

I second what chony said. Yamaha and Korg respectively are the best for Jewish Music.

By the way, you said you use a psr 3000.
I believe the newer models; including the mid range psr's (s900 s910 s710) have new drum kits called "Power kits" (2 to be exact). Maybe (?) that's what your looking for.

The korg's pa series (pa500, pa800, pa2x-pro, pa588) have "multi sampled" drum kits, which depending who you ask, may sound better then the Yamaha drums. abit more realistic if you ask me.

Good luck in the choice you make, and feel free to stop by here with any questions you may have regarding the above models!

You may also want to get a drum machine (ex. alesis sr16, sr18) to use via MIDI for new drum sounds..

I'm Jewish, but I dont play Jewish music (-: ha ha.....
I'm not religious or orthodox... and I'm a hobbist and rarly preform. and when I do, it's not in weddings or something like that.
So, no Hora for me (-:

I think the best solution for me would be a software, and use MIDI rather then buying a new keyboard.
I will have to deeply check varranger and others. any good tips? (Can I use USB like MIDI out???)

Best Drums on arrangers ( that I think have better drums than any workstation) are:

1- Audya (Ketron products in general)
2- Korg PA800/PA2x

yes, it also says that yamaha also makes many arrangers that are inexpensive, which also reflects the sales numbers. If yamaha only made 2-3 arrangers I'm sure things would be a lot different.

Bomba6, in the the original post think that the Yamaha drums are "dull", then he is asking for an advise.

Why some disqualify his opinion and keep insisting in that he use the drums that he already have an opinion against?.

I gotta say that Yamaha drums are too polished and clean, but by adding some ambience effect + compressor they come out very decent. Unlike Roland and Korg, the Tyros has plenty of effects sections allowing for such a luxury.

What effects does the yamaha have that can be applied to a drum kit that the Korg does not ? I have owned yamaha keyboards amnd currently have the Korg PA1X.

Nelson Riddle, Juan Esquivel, Gerald Wilson, Henry Mancini, all great arrangers. They all have pretty realistic drums. Although Esquivel could be a bit unreal at times, but made amazing use of percussion.

Spalding,

I cannot recall what if anything you could adjust on the Korg and Roland keyboard's drum kit sounds, mainly because I didn't have either long enough to dig deeply into the OS of either. On Yamaha keyboards, however, you can adjust a number of sound parameters on each component of any style. If's an onboard style you can save the settings to a registration, or run the style through the keyboard's onboard style creator program, make the changes and save the style as a user or third-party style. If it's a third party style to begin with, you can save the changes directly to the style without going through the style creator program.

If you look under the lessons tab of the PSR Tutorial's home page you'll find detailed instructions of tuning style files.

Cheers,

Gary

If you read my statement again, you will notice that I was not refering to individual effects, but rather to Sections or Blocks of effects available to a user.
Don't get me wrong I never said that the Korg or Roland drums sounded bad. All I wanted to say is that there is potential and tools to make the drums sound decent.

Bomba6: you can check the video how you can improve tour Psr's drums without changing your Yamaha arranger. You can buy a sound module or use another keyboard. Check this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhY_t-NajR0

Ps By the way your nickname in Spanish means "bomb". Kind of funny coming from Israel. No offense I'm a (non religious) Jewish too.

Thank you for your comment Leezone. I'm not saying this is better than anything else but probably easier to do than most think keeping the huge Yamaha style library. I guess the Audya is not avavilable in Israel (like in my country) unless you import it.

the Roland E-60 and E-50 have incredible drumkits. I have compared them to Eastwest Goliath and Ministry of Rock drumkits, which I both own, not as small task.

I also have a PSR3000. The Roland has the best drumkits I have heard on a keyboard, very dynamic and highly detailed

Step 1 is to compare apples with apples and not apples with oranges (Apples = Midi, Oranges = Audio)

AUDIO DRUMS (Loops)
These are the most accurate and realistic, as they are actually a recording of a Real Drummer playing a Real Drum Kit.

Downside:
Unless you have specialist software there is not much you can do with them, (Individual drums sounds are not accessible) so if you wish to edit you have to hope you can find another audio loop to suit what you require, and as most arrangers will only play audio loops produced by the manufacture, you have a limited choice. (In the Pro Studio/Computer World this is no problem, as there are 1000s of loops out there)

MIDI DRUMS
These are the most common as they are individual drum sounds that are triggered by Midi loops, thus easily editable to suit your requirements.

Downside:
You are reliant totally on the quality of the drum samples used, and how good your drum section is at manipulating the Midi Loop to mimic a Real Drummer. (Most arrangers are pretty basic in this respect, as are the Drum samples)

To get the best quality drum samples I am afraid will require the use of external samples, (Akai and/or better still VSTi) either via a computer or module. (Note: some drum Kits can be up to 1GB or more in size)

If you have a computer based keyboard you can normally load them directly on-board, and play about with them as if they were internal drums. (Korgs are also good in this respect, as you can load Akai samples directly into them, with the only downside being limited user memory and loading times)

My personal favourites in order are:
MIDI

VSTi
Akai
Korg
Ketron
Roland
Bohm
Wersi OAS7/Yamaha
NOTE: The New Wersi Pegasus Wing does Not use OAS7, so is an unknown quantity at this stage

AUDIO

VSTi
Ketron
Wersi

NOTE: If you are prepared to put the work in, dont forget the Lionstracs boards, as they are currently the most flexible out there at the moment. (With the only downside being that they do not as yet support the iLock key, therefore some of the VSTi sample sets are unavailable to them)

Hope this helps

Bill
