Hi Musicman22
1. From the file menu choose audio and Midi settings
2. Select Sound Card
3. Set interface to ASIO (If you do not have any ASIO drivers you can download some universal ones here http://www.asio4all.com/ )
4. Set Output device to the appropriate ASIO (you can adjust the settings by clicking the ASIO config button)
5. Click Routing
6. Make sure your soundcard is selected in the list
7. Click Midi
8. Make sure your Midi Interface is selected

To load a sound:
Navigate to the sound you want and then double click it, you should now find everything is active, and you can play the sound.
Hope this helps

Bill

Bill

I use a Mac and I think the ASIO drivers are for PC. I went to the link you posted and there was nothing for Mac.
I reinstalled my drivers for my Tascam interface and I'm still not getting anything.
I'll keep trying.
Thanks for your response.

Hi Musicman22
Didn’t realise you were using a Mac, ASIO drivers are just for PCs.

The instructions I posted are still relevant however, but you need to substitute ASIO with the drivers that Macs use, or the one that came with your soundcard.

Diki will probably be your best bet, as he uses a Mac for music software.

Hope you get it sorted
Regards

Bill

I am all at sea.
I downloaded the programmes and would if possible use one for just playing existing midi files and change voices to taste.

Could some one adise if one of the items would do this and if possible give a step by step guide on how to use it.

I am a 76 year old who finds the instrustions
confusing.

I would be indebted to anyone who can help.

Hi Ken
Out of all the players, Kontakt 4 will be best as it is the most flexible for what you want to do.

What equipment are you using it with? As the CPU power, RAM memory and HDD will play a big part in what you will and will not be able to achieve with it.

There an excellent tutorial here to understand the basics:
http://www.groove3.com/str/popup_vplayer.php?id=1921&productid=16259

Once you have viewed and taken in the above, post again with the above details and it will then be easier for further instructions to be tailored for your specific use.

Regards

Bill

hi Bill,
thanks for the link, the clip will help me also.
Kontak 4 is probably the only one that will be of use to me too.
Some of the software I was using for my old dell xp laptop softsynth setup doesn't seem to want to work with my new win 7 dell.
Biggest hassle has been not being able to get asio 4 all to work .

PG music software seems to work ok, & Kontak 4 also. The clip should just make it a bit easier.

best wishes
Rikki

Hi Rikki
Make sure you have the latest version http://www.asio4all.com/ as it is now compatible with Win 7.

If you have an old program that won’t run in Win 7, load and run it using Windows compatibility mode, (Your given various OS options when you select it) which unlike compatibility mode in XP, actually works quite well.

In addition the sound drivers have been improved in Win 7, so you may find you will be able to set them to a low enough latency, without using other drivers.

Hope this helps

Bill

Hi Bill,
thank you.
I do have the latest asio4all.
It appears the problem isn't really with Asio4all, moreso to do with the audio on my dell. It's somehow shared. I got it to work with a piece of software called Loopbe1. Gave me a virtual midi port?? ( must be along the lines of midi yoke, but only 1 port. Midi yoke won't load for me either) t I assigned the port asio4all. Only problem was, everytime I turned on my laptop, I got an error message. I removed loopbe1, error message went away. Maybe the message was harmless, but I don't know enough about pc's.
I've got an old M Audio usb soundcard, which appears to work ok with Win7, so if I need asio, it will do.
Thanks Bill.

best wishes
