Thanx for the nice demos ...but if I'm being honest I dont hear much difference then my old Ketron SD1+...the drums are to "open" and "overbearing" for my taste, and now as predicted this confirms it, all the fluff, drum solos, etc, doesn't matter to me as I don't use intros/endings too much...it's too repetitive, like to play my own...Roland had the best idea on my G70 to add a 4th intro/ending that you can custom play it "your way"......I'm glad I play a Yamaha arranger, I just like the sound & styles much better overall for my needs....hoping for September 17th to hear the T4 also.
Good luck with your Audya make some great music it just isn't my cup of tea.
Thank you for sharing.

Hi nielshs,

Very nice demo, I really do love the Bossa style and the drums are excellent and very lifelike in practically every snippet.

Would it be possible if you could do another one when you have time? I'd love to hear more of the Audya.

Thanks for sharing.
Danny

Thanks for posting up some of the style. Please post some more if you can. I have really enjoyed your previous work on the G70 some years back and look forward to hearing more :-)

Great audio quality recordings Niels.
Long time ago I used to play the SD1 and I think there still is a tiny time delay (gap beat-wise) while switching from/to intro's, variations and endings.
The best one (to detect it) is the Bossa.

This 'feature' was already in the Solton X1, the Ketron SD1...... and STILL in Audya!! (unbelievable)

I've demonstrated X1 & SD1 for thousands of people and not once heard a complaint of a delay. Listen to songs on my website and tell me there is a delay. Nothing.

Dan01,
Listen at the demo in this thread... you cannot miss them. Many people do not notice, but I (and others) do.... sorry for that.
Concentrate on what happens at (mm:ss)
1:33, 2:01, 2:44 and 2:54
In my view pretty 'unwanted'

Roel....Could it be an issue with the keyboards Timing Clock and the way it detects chord changes somehow?

Hi

Cup of tea or not. I have started to make some registrations for my dinner set and after some sound and style tweaking and again comparing with my T3 dinner set, there is no doubt that the Audya is the winner. The T3 sounds thin and muddy and the Audya clear and full.

neilshs,

Thanks also from me for posting these styles. I forgot how good those drums sound on the Ketron. It's certainly renewed my interest in the Audya.

But.....the first thing I noticed is how "overpowering" they are (the drums). Even before I read what Donny wrote. I'm wondering, not being familiar with Ketron, if one can't "temper" the styles. Part of producing good music is in the dynamics and constant contrasts. To appreciate upbeat drums like that you need to play many measures of "nothing happening" and THEN bring in those awesome drums.

I think only those that have long forgotten what playing on a live stage with a real drummer (a real GOOD drummer!) sounds like are likely to call Ketron's drums overpowering...

But it does bring up an issue I oft refer to. Sure, you can always turn the Audya's drums DOWN, but turning hard hit audio drums down doesn't turn them into drums that are soft hit. At least, not with a loop. MIDI drums, if well sampled (three or four velocity layers per voice), you reduce the velocity (NOT the volume), it sounds like the same drummer playing softer. Reduce the volume on an audio loop, he sounds further away, playing just as hard. It's subtle, but it can make all the difference if you want to perform an upbeat tune in a more downbeat manner.

I am still not sold on the idea of audio drum loops. I believe that MIDI drum tracks, with plenty of dynamics, triggering multi-sampled drum sounds is the more powerful, more flexible way of doing things. And simpler, too. Listen to any BFD or EZDrummer demo, and you can hear how realistic MIDI triggered drums can be. And play MIDI into those kits at a lowered velocity, they still sound like a drummer playing softer, not just turned down in the mix.

Call me stick in the mud, but I am glad to see that not everyone (in fact, no-one other than Ketron) has taken this path so far. If you want an expressive instrument that follows what YOU do (not the other way round), I wouldn't holler too loud for all the other manufacturers to jump on this bandwagon. Start calling for better, more detailed MIDI kits instead....
