http://www.synthesizer.co.uk/ is an online shop that wants to sell as much T4's as possible..

I think biased is the wrong word here. As an opinion this review holds absolutely no value at all.

Tough some of the facts might be true.[/B]

One would think that any company would want to sell as many Tyros4 as possible...what would be the alternative?

Sell as few as possible? Duh!

Comparing their review with several others by non-retailers, makes it clear that they feel the same positive way about the Tyros4.

Are you trying to tell me that this review is objective?

If thats the case then i know how to value your statements about Yamaha...

Not too many years ago I had to write product reviews for local and regional magazines. It was a lousy job. There were certain rules that had to be followed or you would quickly find yourself out of a job.

Rule #1 was easy to follow. The review had to be a product that was manufactured by an advertiser.

Rule #2 was a bit more difficult. We were not allowed to write anything derogatory about the product--only positive features. If there were any negative features, they were to be ignored.

Consequently, there were times that I refused to write a product review on certain products--they were just lousy products, therefore I didn't write anything at all. Kinda' like my parents always said to me when I was a little kid "If you can't say something nice about someone--don't say anything at all!"

Was the T4 review unbiased? Not likely. Was it honest? Probably.

Keep in mind that you cannot write an honest review of a product that you have never seen, touched or used--it's just not possible. Sure, you can look at all the technical specifications, promoted features and draw some minor conclusions, but you CANNOT write an honest review without actually exploring the machine.

Therefore, when Frank gets one in his store that I can see, touch, hear and play I review it in his store, make an assessment in my aging brain, and do one of two things. I'll either thank him for allowing me to take a test drive and go home. Or, I'll thank him for allowing me to take a test drive, and write him a check and take the keyboard home.

I've never been a big fan of demos because they are usually done by individuals that are extremely talented and know the product inside and out. Demos give you an idea what can be accomplished in the hands of a highly skilled individual, but what I, and most other consumers, need to determine is what WE are capable of doing with the product.

Keep us posted Frank. Audioworks is just 6 to 7 hours drive time for me--a worthwhile trip for a purchase of this magnitude.

Cheers,

Gary

Certainly not...but that doesn't mean it's not honest.

May I point out that "synthesisers" may have a web site but that is just the online presence of a fully functioning retail outlet (Hamiltons of Preston) which I pass most days whilst commuting, and have used sometimes. They are certainly not a bunch of anonymous and unknown box shifters, they do know their stuff.

But you do need to read the review with the knowledge that (I believe) they are official Yamaha and Roland dealers. I've seen some serious Korg stuff in there as well. I think the review is genuine but will have been written by someone who will be trying to sell the product and so naturally is going to "accentuate the positive".

Of course they'd love to shift bucketloads of Tyros 4's - when all is said and done that's their job, but doing that around here in the current economic climate it going to be a very hard task no matter how astonishing the Tyros proves to be.

As ever the opinions I'll trust most will be (a) my own and (b) anyone else on this forum. I haven't seen any publicity locally about demonstrations but if I get the chance I'll try to attend. Regrettably I'll still only be able to afford one by winning the lottery!

Guess what. There are two T4 demo's in my area - one at Hamiltons - the last week of October.

Which is school holiday week here, so I will be in Scotland at the time!!!

I'm trying to see if there's a demo in the Edinburgh area at this time, no joy so far.
