Going to order a RockNRoller (R10)

Several guys on the SZ have used this cart for a few years and seem to be, from the history I've read, very pleased with the purchase.

Some questions:

1) My old cart weighs 36.4 lbs. The R10 weighs 30.0 lbs.

Q: Will I notice a decrease in load stability to speak of?

2) The R10 has an accessory shelf for the bottom of the cart. I'm not sure I need it and it costs $69.99.

Q: Can anyone comment on why or why they didn't decide to purchase and if in hindsight they felt they made the right decision?

3) The R10 has optional larger and locking wheels available for the front at about an extra $5 per wheel.

Q: Have any of you went this route? Comments?

4) I see a best price at $169.99 at both Sweetwater and AMS.

Q: Does anyone know if there's a better price available elsewhere? (Specifically, do George Kaye and/or Frank V carries this product?)

R10....w/locking wheels....

No giging musician should be without one.

I dont need the shelf.

I have used this unit for several years and bought a shelf for it last year. I use it a little differently because of the length of the G70. I load my Bose and smaller items on the bottom, and put the shelf on the highest holes. This allows my keyboard to ride high, making it easy to lift it to the stand.

In my case, the shelf is great for keeping the keyboard off my other equipment and not having equipment sitting on my keyboard.

I use the R-10 with a locking small wheel and have used it every day for five years. I've only put air in the tires once and never had to do it again.

As for the shelf, the one that they make is a heavy, piece of junk. Several months ago I posted a photo of the shelf modification that I created, which consists of nothing more than two lengths of 1-inch box aluminum fitted with detent pins. It takes just 10 seconds to install, lightweight, easily stored and transported, completely corrosion proof. Cost about $40 and took 30 minutes to make using a hacksaw and drill. It is capable of supporting approximately 150 pounds.

From my perspective the Rock & Roller R-10 is the best thing since sliced bread.

Bill....in a nutshell. Every time I wheel my equipment in with my R&R cart, I think to myself that, with the enormous amount of equipment we have to use nowadays, I'd be lost without the "cart." I count my blessings and say a silent prayer for whoever invented it! Before this I used a large dolly. Never again will I go anywhere (not even the supermarket) without the R&R cart.

If you're doing multiple locations on a job, I've even set my amp on the "bottom" and used props on each side to hold an open keyboard at a height ready to play. All you need to do is "unplug" and go to the next location. I've pushed as much as 200-300 lbs with one finger (on a smooth, level floor)...no strain and no pain. Always keep the wheels lubricated and it almost moves itself.

You can open and fold it literally in under a minute.

You can cross grass and rough ground with the standard wheels. You can even go skateboarding with it (only kidding).

One suggestion. I'm not sure how the new ones are, but my design (about 4 years old) has one of the side "guard rails" hanging loose when you transport it folded. Simple remedy: get a bungee cord and stretch it from the top to the bottom to hold it in place.

You appear to be doing a lot of this type of work. Buy one and you'll wonder how you ever got along without it!

Bill the R-10 is a winner..about the optional heavy duty wheels...I have my personal r-10 and we have another (band member) for the sound equipment..This unit actually bent the framework holding the wheels (abuse /over weighted)..We replaced the wheels (HD) for $30 and they are really great..If I knew the option ahead of my purchase ..I would order for another $10..

Bill - I've got an R10 and love it. The larger wheels are a plus in bad weather. The stability is very good; you should have no problems. Mine didn't come with an accessory shelf, but something solid for at least part of the base is helpful. I got mine online from http://www.audiolines.com/Accessories-789/Equipment-Carts/Rock-N-Roller-R10 for just $105.
