1) You want to play Star Trek theme, and can't use that intro since it has wrong notes. 2) You want to play a different song, but you can't use that intro since if you play it, just after the first phrases people thinks "hey he's copyng Star Trek!"
So they are fairly useless... And THAT'S where style editing comes in.Enough can be done to re record parts to put some more distance between the original and one's rendition. I have the same complaints with all the styles. But one has to remember, Arrangers are made to REPRODUCE that which has already been done.....Work Stations are use for completely original creations

Good one, Randy, another way of getting more mileage out of a style. Back in the day, when instruments had only 50-100 on-board styles (or less), having styles that weren't song specific was more important. Today, with USB drives, there are hundreds of styles available instantly, with the push of button, so having song specific styles is no longer a problem. Ian

Fran, if you get to try a Tyros4, I will be very interested in your impressions. Because you are a hard-core Roland enthusiast, you won't be going into it with any prejudice or brand loyalty from the Yamaha side of things. My Uncle Jim used to say, "If you really want to know what a person is like, ask someone who doesn't like them." That way you'll get a good understanding of their character, without any friendship/loyalty to color the results. I will be interested to learn if you think it is a substantial upgrade from the Tyros3, which you said you have tried. Also I would like to know if you feel the sound is more "live."
