The format of the style's CASM data (which control the interpretation of the MIDI data in the style) has is the new one shared by Tyros 3 & 4; PSR S910/S710; and the CVP 5xx serie.

This new format can not be loaded in older models unless conversion.

My "Style Format 2 Converter" software program at http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/sf2c/index.htm will convert the styles technically.

You still have to revoice the styles yourself.

Hi Jorgen,
so things did change.
I just downloaded the T2 & T4 manuals.
The one major difference I noticed is the
Note Transposition Rule for Guitar. Didn't exist in the T2.
So I suppose any style that uses the NTR setting for Guitar, won't play back quite correctly in the earlier models.
The note transposition tables on the other hand still appear to be the same?

How did you get around it?? Did you default to the Root Tranpose setting instead?
I found in my korg , I was safer using the above ( equivalent setting ) rather than the root fixed setting especially if there is some sort of arpeggio involved.

There again, I have the option of doing my settings individually track by track, which you can't really do in an automatic conversion when you're trying to keep it assimple as possible for the user.

I did notice with the T3 styles I tried converting they appeared far more complex than my earlier psr styles when I opened them up in my sequencer. It was probably the guitar NTR tracks I was looking at..

With my editing for the korg, I have the luxury of just changing the yammie file extension to .mid, edit it in a pc sequencer, and then load it in, & do my settings in the korg itself..

Might do a revisit of some of the yammie ntt & ntr settings & work out how they correspond with my korg settings. They sort of make a bit more sense to me now than they did before I got the korg. I spent a long time trying to work them out & now when I take a look at the yammie settings , they are quite similar.

Thanks Jorgen

Shim,
I see...well I understand as I had the T2 then went to PA2XPRO...at first I felt it was harder and I felt like I was kind of lost.
But, after a while I now see it is easier...per say different.
I agree I like the registrations too...but once you get used to doing the performances and using the top notch song book all is well.

As you probably know one reasonit may seemharder is that there is a lot more there.

Also, If yo did not get used to the shift key shortcuts...that wold have made a difference as most functions have a shift + 1 shortcut.

Hi Jorgen,
I just came across MB's Style Dump software via your site. This will be handy for working out which styles use Guitar setting.
Also shows the casm settings for the style.
May come in really handy for my korg conversion.

Also came across your Style File Renamer.

One thing I've never quite worked out, is there a difference between the various yamaha file names ie .sty, prs, sst etc

ie just say I edited a .prs style & saved it as a .sty file instead, does saving it as .sty , automatically alter something about the style.

Reason I'm asking is, with my korg I export style as a midifile into a pc sequencer, I can then do a bit of editing, resave as a midifile & then import back into the korg.

With a lot of the yammie styles, I can change an extension from just say .sty to .mid. In .mid format I should be able to edit the style in a pc sequencer, but trying to change the .mid extension back to .sty extension, I've never been able to get to work.
Then I came across Jorgen's program "style file renamer". It does change it to .sty.

Hence I'm wondering, if I do the above, would it alter the style in some other way that I'm not aware of??
