My band uses a Tascam 2488 NEO digital 24 track recorder to record in our garage rehearsal space. Although we could mix down on it as well our bass player has a Pro Tools setup so takes the Tascam recorder home with him and dumps the tracks to Pro Tools and mixes using that.

Our recording of "Last Call" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPAAjjBuE5g was done using the Tascam at a reheasral.

Beachbum...I know the exactly what your going through as I hsve used Audition since 1.0.

Since that is the program I started with...it has become the benchmark that I compare all the others I own or have tried.

The feature that makes Audition the best audio recording software IMO is it's editing features. Simply double click the track and it takes you to edit mode where you can make quick and very precise edits...either save or click back to track mode and your changes are right there.

I went on a quest to find any other program that allowed that feature along with the VSTI options and better sequencing options...and the only one I could find was Cubase. I am currently running version 5.5 but to be honest, when it comes to straight recording...I find myself running right back to Audition.

Why Adobe has left this program sit for so long and not updated it's sequencing and VSTI support just blows my mind.

Along the way I have purchased:
Sonar: (Versions 5 - 8) Powerful, but unless your willing to dig in and really get to know it...it's frustrating.

Cubase: (Versions 4 - 5.5) Has the double click edit mode that I love...but it suffers from the same bloated feature set that Sonar has. I am still using it and trying to get comfortable with it.

Pro Tools: (Versions 6.8 - 8) I know it is the industry standard but, to be honest...I just did'nt like it. Maybe I just got into it to late in the game and comparing it to Audition made it to frustrating to try.

Power Tracks: Nice easy to use program, but did'nt allow mp3 import. And coming from Audition...it lacked full feature audio editing I need for production.

Since this thread...which is a great thread I might add...I've downloaded trial versions of:

Reaper: Looks like a nice full featured program. Even appears to have the doule click edit function...but I could'nt get it to work in the short amount of time I worked with it. Certainly priced right.

Mixcraft 5: Again, appears to be a nice straight forward program with nice features.

I guess when all is said and done...with all the money I've spent on software...I still yearn for Audition 4.0.

ADOBE...ARE YOU LISTENING!!!

Mitch

Hi Guys

Try Audacity its free and every bit as powerful as many expensive packages
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Version 1.3.12 beta it is a beta version but no problems up to now.

I record to MP3 files direct from Pa2x then import into Audacity and edit as much as you want then save as MP3 file. You can if you wish load any MP3 file add extra tracks and re-save.

Kind Regards

Colin
